The Pulsar, then was a ‘big bike’ with its muscular tank in India. No one really could guess that this bike would have a massive hand in changing the way many Indians would see bikes.

Many say that the airport of a country is an indicator of how developed the country is. Fine. But for me the actual movie starts when you get down on the roads. The kind of vehicles that you see on the road indicate the mindset of the people and how well placed the economy is. Now wouldn’t you love to see slick looking motorcycles all over with enough power to at least allow you to outrun the dog that is after you?

Who is to blame for this condition of the two wheeler setup in India? Certainly not the companies, they would like to see huge numbers of units sold with huge numbers under  the income field as well. Right now, profit by numbers is the mantra.

What needs to be is actually profit by margin. But considering the current demographic setup this is not going to be a fast change.

India needs a company who not only needs to be the biggest in terms of numbers but also needs to boast of the brand and desirability value.

For Mr.Sharma as a commuter Hero Honda has more brand value with the Spendour NXG’s unbelievable 8 Bhp power and outstanding fuel economy, for his Master Sharma studying in NIIT something better would suffice. But when he can ride his dad’s NXG how will he justify that he needs that Karizma? What can the Karizma do what the NXG cant? Both can wade through traffic, both can carry Mr. and Mrs. Sharma to the vegetable market and back, both are motorcycles, and oh dude, the NXG returns 60+ kmpl, now can that Karizma pull that off! And the smart sounding NXG costs less too!

Once Master Sharma happened to meet an exchange student from Korea.

Master Hoi Chin asked Master Sharma “What ride do you have?” (Please add the asian Chinese accent)

Master Sharma – “Oh, I ride an NXG!”

“Woah, how cool a name is that! The bike must be real cool, can you ask your dad to please show it to me!”

Now, how embarrassing can that be to Master.Sharma, surely he has an irreparable dent in his young ego.

For the rest of his life he shifts to a heavier 800 CC Maruti, at least he can call it a car.
