In The Great Indian Roadtrip (GIR)
we did not try to answer this question by a simple comfortable 'Why Not!'. We aim to extend our reasoning and take it to a higher level with this trip.

The one obvious question that is sent flying to our face is why a trip outside India? What does an Indian biking club has got to do by doing a trip in another country?

To us, that is akin to asking why do we need to even step out of our house or city. Why do we even need to travel? The answer, my friend, is the same albeit at a whole new level of application.

With this trip we want to encourage a whole new generation of self sustaining youth of India who wish to leave more than just a mark on some government and multinational company official papers. They, who want to have experiences which will broaden their outlook towards living life. We want to inspire Indian youth who wants to show the world that India has arrived.

That the birth of the Global Indian has taken place. And it starts right here from India's largest biking club - xBhp.com

To those who came in late, xBhp mean 'x' amount of braking horse power. It is an Indian biking club which aims to consistently grow and inculcate progressive thoughts in the Indian youth using what we refer to as -Bikeism which mean self development and learning through the act of biking.

Here is a video briefly touching the trip:

At this point we would like to list down some aims of this trip at the onset:

  • Letting the world know that the Indian youth is not simply content by discovering their own backyard
  • Inspiring the Indian youth to believe in their dreams and work hard to achieve them.
  • To showcase Australia to the Indian youth and contextually compare both the countries so as not to demean either of them. The trip will show the culture, technology and landscapes of Australia.
  • Inspire youth of both the countries to respect each other's culture

We will try and achieve the above aims through photographs, videos and travelogues. We will attempt to update the blogs everyday of the trip.

In The Great Indian Roadtrip we blogged almost daily after riding for hours at end. It was a rewarding experience to let people follow what we were doing daily. We aim to better our previous effort by blogging videos along with text and images.

We have divided the trip into two legs.

Leg 1 : July 3rd 2007 to 2nd August 2007. This leg constitutes Sunny going to Australia to get acquainted with the rules, lifestyle and talk to corporates regarding the actual roadtrip. We regard this phase as very important and an overview of the trip preparation, acquiring sponsorships & the Australian way of life.

Leg 2 : 1st November 2007 to 20th January 2008. This is the actual roadtrip in which we shall attempt to discover and capture as much Australia as we possibly can in a short span of 80 days. This leg will include the roads, landscapes and the innumerable experiences that we have come to expect of a continent.

Why Australia?

Looking to the right side of India on the world map, we saw this huge landmass which was a continent and a single country. Immediately it struck to us that we would only require one time permissions to access it.

Deeper study revealed the following (now obvious) features of this country which were very inviting :

  • Australia has Vast open spaces

  • Australia has best of the roads which allow for freedom to travel

  • Australia has Unlimited Camping opportunities in the Outback

  • Australia has Beautiful Parks and Reserves

  • Australia has the Best of the motorbikes

  • Australia has the best of the technology available to aid such an endeavor

  • Australia has colorful people and social environment

  • The moderate climate of Australia is also conducive to roadtrips if undertaken in the right season

  • Both Australia and India share a strong passion in sports, specially Cricket

  • There were some close xBhp members and friends of ours who had shifted to Australia from the Delhi xBhp group.

Thus, it was Australia. We specially liked the fact that we not only be doing a country by road but a whole continent. How is that for a brag factor!

We hope that you will enjoy this trip as much as we will do.
