Not just content being a pillion on his father's Enfield , Krishnendu KEN Kes got the feel of riding a bike right from the age of 11. The taste of speed came from a run on a friend's Yamaha RD350. His enthusiasm for biking has not waned in the least over the years. After riding an Enfield himself for many years, he now moves around town (and much further afield!) on a Comet.
Right from the student days he has been a keen traveler, going for trips that have taken him from discovering wildlife in the forests of Simlipal and Ranthambor to trekking solo and organizing expeditions in the heights of Amarnath and Roopkund and around Annapoorna in Nepal to climbing active volcanoes like Mt Etna and Stromboli in Sicily.
He has also traveled across Europe from Poland to Spain traversing and visiting seven countries with a backpack and a Eurail pass. To discover another means of transport and have an experience of fast roads he has driven over 30,000 kilometers in a Peugeot 206 and 306hdi, often accompanied by his 2 and a half year old son Maël. Moving from the Sphinx in Egypt to the Terracotta soldiers in China , his hunger for travel is insatiable.
Wherever he goes he never forgets to take his constant companion, the camera, to be able to capture the views of the places that he visits. He uses a Canon EOS5 and three block lenses. He does not use zoom lenses because he does not want to compromise on quality.
Part time course in French in Alliance Francaise at Calcutta gave him an exposure to French and he came to JNU in Delhi to take a BA and a Masters degree in the same. The knowledge of the language now helps him take francophone tourists for visits in Rajasthan, a good choice of profession for someone who likes to be on the move all the time.
The demands of the job keep Ken away from Delhi during a good part of the year, but when he is in town he makes time to keep up with the interest he has cultivated over the years – cinema. He catches up on the latest hollywood releases and also frequents cine festivals, the Asian film festival, the European festival held under the aegis of various organizations in the capital.
Reading is another interest that he keeps up with. Even while at work, it is not unusual to see him fill his suitcase with books to occupy the occasional spare time.
Running on high adrenaline Krishnendu KEN Kes is always one to share his interests and enthusiasm with people around him; the ones around him have got a feel of his bikes, be it his 60 plus mother or his 6 plus son!
