Take a look at the Jupiter and you will gasp. Its bigger than anything made in India on two wheels. Bigger than the Bullets too. Once you sit on it's plush and magnanimous seat you will start feeling like a king on two wheels. It is fantastically well balanced for a scooter and stays in a straight line even under heavy braking. Thanks to its front and rear disk brakes. The Jupiter comes in two versions – one is the 150CC that we got for the GIR and one is the 250 CC that we actually tested in Pune. The 250CC was fantastic and churned out 20Bhp with its variomatic gears giving more than enough competition to any 150CC geared bike on Indian roads. However, it does not mean that the 150 CC 150Bhp was less. It used to consistently touch ~120kmph on the speedos on the trip. However I t did not last long on the trip. The Jupiter was not in production when it was given to us and therefore we were warned that no spare parts would be available if anything goes wrong. And it did. The rear disk brake stopped functioning on the first day of the Leg 2 of GIR and it was shown to many of the best mechanics in India ( superbike mechanics, Indian bike mechanics …. ) . The most famous and fruitful try being by Venugopal of Bangalore ( of the V Twin Fiero fame ). A thread on xBhp.com was started with the name “The Venugopal Challenge”. He well, almost fixed it. After trying a lot we let the Jupiter in Hyderabad at GasolineJunkie’s place.
Two weeks after the GIR ended we got the news that GasolineJunkie’s local mechanic had fixed the rear brake! This was possible by working on the work already done by Venugopal in Bangalore.
All kudos to Bunny to take the Jupiter from Delhi to Hyderabad without a rear brake!
