for an inexperienced rider without the braking technique, disk brakes can be a fair handful when you just grab at them , locking the front wheel and sending you flying. im sure the abs helped there but you also need to learn the right braking technique which is setup and squeeze

it a 2 part technique which when you have some practise will become second nature and make hard stops pretty easy

when you need to brake, lightly squeeze the brake lever till you take the slack out of it and they just start to bite. then you can gradually increase force and brake as hard as you want while rolling your wrist to twist back the accelerator to the start position.

the key is to be fluid and not jutterry. with some practise you will be amazed how quickly you can do it. and its a technique used from street riding to motogp racing
