You could get a good card like an Ati 4850 for around 7-8k.There are a lot of options above that if you can spend some more.
I changed my old card after three years and it still runs fine.Can play all the latest games too.

It means that the motherboard is capable of running two graphic cards at the same time. The boards that can run two Nvidia cards are called SLI motherboards while the motherboards that can run two Ati cards are called Crossfire motherboards.
And yes there are a lot of brands in motherboards.Good and bad.MSI,Asus and Gigabyte are the good ones.
