The Great Indian Roadtrip : Day 69 - November 6: Kovalam

For a 110 days if you write a blog for each day it would rather become boring after a while – reading and writing it. But as I said in this blog it is a job which I like to do, so I am not complaining, huh! To make it a wee bit different this day I will recollect today backwards from this moment. As I am sitting in our fantastic hotel room ( Hotel Beach Castle ) overlooking the Hawa beach in Kovalam, I try hard to juggle between the conversation of Karthik and his friend from Team Bhp who had come all the way from Trivandrum at 8.30 Pm in the night. After a lot of talk about cars between them and gasolinejunkie we decided to go outside and click some pictures with their tricked lancer and the 1000rr. Yes, there was a little competition of which monster sounded ‘louder’ and the Lancer prolly won that.
After they left a nice dinner followed in one of the tons of shacks at the Kovalam Beach. With rain outside and huge splashing waves on the beach with cool wind it was a little irritating to realize that the shacks don’t treat you well as Indians ( that being a different story to be written down in another day’s blog ).
Recollecting the day’s events comes as a long list of memories – some fond and some that you wish never had happened. The fond memories included a ride with the Trivandrum members to the awesome Shankhumugham beach on the outskirts of Trivandrum. Over there we had a nice cheap breakfast at the India Coffee House after a session of photography at the clean beach with blue and green waters.
Every dog has its day, and today it was’nt to be for this poor dog who decided to ballet on an empty highway which was flooded the next second with our bikes zooming back to Kovalam. And he specifically to chose to come before GasolineJunkie’s Comet and give him some lesson in high speed braking. Unfortunately for the dog, his pupil wasn’t so good and it was to be his last lesson delivered. Fortunately for GasolineJunkie and the Comet, they both got away with relatively minor problems. Gaso had a ligament tear while the Comet’s gear lever broke. A member dropped Gaso to the hospital while rest of us went to the Kinetic’s service centre in Trivandrum and dropped the Comet and Jupiter for servicing. You might want to read this blog for an account of another GIR rider on an accident he had on the same Comet. We all heaved a sigh of relief though that Gaso had not broken anything, it was a ligament tear, which is sometimes more irritating and takes more time to heal than a bone injury.
Anyways after a inter city tour of Trivandrum due to a futile search of 97 octane petrol for the 1000RR and after a nice wash of the bike we headed back to Kovalam hurriedly as to catch the sunset at Poovar Island resort ( 15 kms away from Kovalam ). As usual it was cloudy and the light was not right to allow the Canon cameras to get the awesome shots we expected. But anyways the jetty ride to the Island was terrific along with the resort itself which was very well landscaped and serene.
All in all, without the help of Trivandrum xBhpians, this wouldnt be a successful day despite the problems that we had.
So there you are, a haphazard day which proved a phrase – “Man proposes, God Disposes”.
