One thing I did not like in the 2010 Ninja were the black tail covers, so I went ahead and bought 2009 green covers from Melbourne even before I got my bike.

So just after taking my delivery from Khivraj Bajaj and parking the bike at home, I took my set of allen keys, screwdriver and decided to swap the black tail covers with the green ones since that was one thing I wanted to change badly, even over the saree guard and front number plate.(which I did a couple of weeks later) So here's are some pictures from my DIY session in case anyone wants to do the same. It is better to do it yourself - you get to know a bit about the bike, and it is free!!!

I removed the side covers, the rear and main seat and the black tail covers. One needs a S shaped screwdriver to take out the side covers, and then it is allen key all the way (no 4 and 5 sizes). Here's the bike minus all the stuff:

All the 250R bits kept on my RE!

This is one of the most painful process - removing the siamese twin rubber washers from the black tail covers and insert them into the green one. My fingers are still sore from pushing! Here's a picture of a washer - there are 6 of them!!!

One green cover fixed - actually the left one goes on first, followed by the right one as the right one sits on the left one at the pillion seat lock point:

Ta da! Green tail transformation complete!

The final look of the bike - excuse the lousy indoor picture! Total time taken for swapping the tail covers - 90 minutes. Need S shaped screwdriver and a set of allen keys. There are 10 allen screws involved and at least 5 are in different thread lengths, so be careful not mix them up if you decide to do this procedure on your own, like I did.
I really like this new look as compared to stock, and the green seats go very well with the tail covers. Now I do not need to buy a black seat which earlier I thought I should - yahoo!

Update: Sukesh (Malliah) put the tail covers on too, and he gave me a very useful tip. To get the rubber gaskets out of the covers, just dip that section in warm water for sometime. This will make the rubber soft and easier to take out and put in.
