Default My experience at the service camp

Hi falcon,

I was also at the service camp yesterday.

I had the following discussions with the Suzuki employee ( one indian and 1 japanese)

1. squeaking sound from front disk - the indian engineer showed it to the jap one who took some notes. When they returned the bike, i checked it and there was no sound.

2. high heel shifter - checked this with only local mechanic( i mean the one at the dealer). He initially tried to bypass the issue saying "150CC bike's gear lever cann't be compared to 125CC" when i pointed him to the Zeus's gear lever. After arguing for 5 minutes, he checked something with the Suzuki engineer, brought some tools and reduced the height.

3. I have asked for lowering the handle bar - local mechanic said that it may affect the lock-to-lock position by obstructing with that big tank) and also it requires length reduction of all the cables connected to the steering column. Though I was not convinced, i let it go.

4. rear brake - I have already changed the brake spring in an earlier service which did improve the brake bite at that time. This time they have tightened the drum, as they do everytime, whose effect may not last more than a week. At the end, no acceptable solution.

5. rectifier/regulator xxxxAA to xxxxBA - the local mechanic said there is nothing to worry as that number is a serial number provided by the vendor of that particula part. I dont know how much it is true. Forgot to check this with the Suzuki guys

6. My gear indication and neutral LED stopped working - turned out to be a rat eating away some cables. This is instantly guessed by that local mechanic. After some discussions, they suggested replacing those set of cables at a cost of 1050/-. I paid for it.

7. Tank rust concern - the indian Suzuki guy checked my tank and said it is not affected. He said that the issue was reported in coastal areas and the company replaced the tank for those affected customers.

8. Left side handle lock - the suggestion was leave it as it is. I didn't push as it's a minor one.
But i do inform anybody who drives my bike, very very rare, that be careful while left side locking
I had some generic discussions with the Japanese engineer.

Me: Front wheel doesn't feel planted at speeds > 70. Gets aggravated if there is a pillion
Jap: has spoken to some 70-80 customers and nobody has made similar comment.
Me: insisted with my question asking about the front:rear weight ratio
Jap: how does it compare to Unicorn and Pulsar?
Me: Not driven Uni.Pointed him to the type of tyres used on GS150 and compared them to
the Pulsar which uses some other variant of MRF Nylogrip Zapper. Also Pulsar is much shorter
and lighter so it is not that insecure.
Jap took pen+paper, noted down something)
Me: is fuel mapping different in eco/power modes?
Jap: No, it's just a notification to the rider
Me: why there are 2 cables connected to throttle?
Jap: dont know exactly but it is done in similar fashion in bigger bikes. ( I was thinking ...OK).
Even if 1 cable snaps, the other one works providing safety. ( I was thinking.. this Jap guy
is taking me for granted)
Me: How is the speed measured when no cable is connected to the either wheel?
Jap: it is measured from the engine part
Me: you mean engine RPM? it might be incorrect as it is always possible to rev the engine
in lower gears like 1,2,3?
Jap: doesn't depend on RPM but the speed of drive train.
Me: (Don't know a thing about drive train and hence let it go) Thanks.

On the whole, I was impressed with the way the indian Suzuki guy was answering various questions from bikers. He was even taking each and every bike on the busy old airport road with the customer as pillion and verifying their complaints. He was as energetic at 3PM as he was at 9:30AM. Good job.

Regards,
