The topic that you are asking here is a unusual one.. maybe no one has gone to the extent of determining as to how exactly the flame propogates.

actually i doubt if anyone will be able to throw light except the very few pro tuners/ core engine designers.. all the best for the thread.. i am keeping a eye (and ear nose etc etc ) on this thread...

as far as i know, the side gapping will definately help in the flame propogation as it creates a open space for the flame spreading but what i know is competely theoretical.. let the pro tuners comment here..
