THE MEGA CLIMAX !!!!!
Reaching Salem and realising that we were 25 mins late, we skipped any discussion and started riding towards our destination....for the first time...NO DISCUSSION!!! This time Mahesh lead, and we followed. Time was running out and traffic also was getting thicker....and right in the climax, God had one more test for us...heavy dark clouds started looming on our heads and small droplets of water was resting on our helmet visors...NO GOD - PLEASE NOT NOW...PLEASE GOD PLEASE...mercy on your heroes...everyone of us had the same thought in our minds (not abt being heroes...but abt the mercy) and were trying to speed up more hoping to cross the dark clouds and leave them behind...BUT, no man can win against the RAIN GODS....a sudden lightning, thunderous roar and the rain starts pouring as if a big waterfall had been opened upon us...clenching our teeth and handlebars, we opened our visors, and determined to face whatever may come...the ride carried on full throttle...
Heavy drops of rain hit our eyes...all dust and slush from the wheels of the overtaking cars & buses was trying to screw our ride, but WE WERE RIDERS OF THE STORM and nothing could stop us...and anyways, heroes always carry on the fight and are the toughest during climax...remember, this was no less than a movie
Riding with full vigour and energy, & with the realisation of the possibility of achieving success, we kept riding, with our focus only on winning the title and to be certified as the WORLD’S TOUGHEST RIDERS. This focus was no less than the mighty Arjun’s in Mahabharath...we don’t even dare compare ourselves with anything less than a legend!!! We crossed Perundurai junction and with a quick glance at the clock and odo readings we noticed that we were only 10 mins behind schedule. Wow...that surely gave a good n positive feel after all the incidents that we had to face!!!!
A new wave of energy crosses by as God finally gave us a green signal and stopped the rain. It’s weird to see how it rains at a place and just a few kms away there is not even a single drop of rain....guess that’s exactly what you call God’s creation...just makes you believe all stories that you’ve always heard in childhood, of Gods!!! We kept moving on, while Mahesh took a halt and made frantic calls to Kartik (xbhp member- who had signed the witness forms at the start of the ride), to reach the BP petrol pump to sign the witness forms again, marking the end of the ride. As soon as that was done, he rode frantically to catch up on us.
Reaching the Chengapally junction and with only 25 mins left to finish the journey successfully, we took a left and headed towards Tiruppur, crossing each and every obstacle...dont worry, these are the daily obstacles you face when you’re on roads, like traffic, speedbreakers, potholes, etc....by now these seemed to be negligible after having faced all that we did!!! Without slowing down even for a mille-fraction of a second...we crossed the uthukuli main road. Zooming past the TMF junction in the city, and with just 11 mins to go zoom our way into the BP pump, where we had started our official ride, we had a big satisfactory grin on our faces!!! With Kartik waiting for us with a big smiling and happy face, the guys at the fuel station were already expecting us any minute and all the pumps were kept free for us...immediately the bikes were moved to different pumps and the filling process started...we ran to the office and started swiping our cards to mark the closing of the official tend time of the ride, while kartik was busy signing the witness forms. The clock was ticking and still there were 2 card swipes left...with the swiping machine being very slow, our luck was running out and fate was hanging on the tip of a sword...a little too dramatic I know...but when this full journey was soooo full of dramas, the end had to have a slight spice to it
The owner of the BP petrol pump comes to the rescue (another messenger of God...by now we had learnt to respect the Almighty even more)...he immediately changes the phone line connection of the machine and makes quick swipes with the remaining two cards and STOPS the time machine....ppphheewwwwww
ODO reading were checked, watches were compared and after confirming that there was no doubt or error, we realised that WE HAD SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED THE SADDLE SORE 1000 WITH JUST 11 MINS LEFT in our hands....I cannot explain the feeling of that moment in words...from being behind schedule throughout the journey, we had finally completed it before time!!!
The agony, the pain, the desperation, the pressure, the happiness, the satisfaction, the feeling of achievement, & the respect, all came and hit us hard right at the same time and none of us could even speak a word...everyone of us wanted to cherish this moment of truth and just wanted to enjoy the feeling. We all sat at one corner of the BP petro pump holding hands and just smiled.
Huhhhh.....all’s well that ends well....so old but sooooo true!!!!!!

signing off...
JOSH.
