The Art Of Safe Riding
This initiative is about helping you live with and through this freedom. Speed can be lethal in untrained hands. This is an effort by xBhp and CEAT about training those hands, and the mind that controls them, to live in a world where dying can come easy. It will show you the way to become one with your motorcycle, to elevate the skill of riding into an art.

Same thoughts here. Even educated people driving 15+ lakh cars, don't know road etiquettes.

Driving in India is a dance with death. The only way to avoid it is to drive a car. Period.

I wouldn't call it dance of death, we're in the system. Period; and that's the way we live.

A good example would be, if you're watching a traffic jam from a high rise building, you would call people are crazy, but if you're one among them, you would only want to get out at any cost.

And what's the standard lighting - a 35W non-halogen bulb.

Yeah, because if you don't then the person behind you will honk like crazy and everyone will gang up to push you out of the way.

Its like when the whole system is being corrupt and one guy tries to be upright, then everyone will try to pull him down.

I tried not to be one among "them". But you know what happened - one guy banged his car against my motorbike (that was purely intentional, because he first stopped and then later banged his car when i didn't move after his incessant honking). Another time an auto-driver came to me and asked why did i stop at a red-light.

After those two incidents i too stopped stopping at red-lights when no-one else is stopping.

Now what would you advise me - to be self-righteous and get hurt or to follow the herd?

Also the infrastructure contributes to it. Why doesn't the govt. create a separate lane for people taking a right-turn. Why aren't priorities implemented at junctions without traffic-signal or at the roundabout? Why are speed-breakers not standardised? Why aren't radium stickers/paint put on the dividers? Why aren't sign-boards put up before we approach the junction rather than at the junction? Why are sign-boards ambiguous? Why are "men-at-work" kind of sign-boards not removed when the men have finished working? Why are roads with pot-holes not covered up on time? Why is the patchwork shoddy?

And don't tell me that the govt. doesn't have money to implement this. India is not really a poor country.

Too bad...on your part. Those guys would've been angry probably because you did not yield way to them. Quite natural!!!

Now, you can opt to remain the same OR you can follow the same but do it slightly different. Putting it in black & white - You know there's a signal & you need to stop, get to nearly the left or in the middle of the road & stop before the stop line. Yield way to all those morons who think they'll save several hours before they die, if they save time at stop lights. No issues, no complaints, those wanting to jump will never shout on you, those feeling guilt will follow you. Don't tell me it doesn't work, I've been doing this for atleast a year now AND IT WORKS!!!

Have you filed RTI for any such instance? Have you approached any Govt dept for asking these questions? Have you filed a PIL? Have you done any of these apart from paying tax? Just don't complain, if you cannot do anything constructive.

India is still not in debt like UK or USA.

I somehow didn't understand some of your replies. Seems like you refuted me just for the sake of refuting...

Anyway, i'll answer to some of your logical replies...

Yes, i too do the same now; try to find the middle way out of things. Reconciliatory approach, you see

I totally agree with this. But sometimes... my pent up frustration just comes out and i start cribbing like a kid...

I'm seriously thinking of doing that. Just that i don't know how does it all work out and how much does it cost and who pays for all the litigation stuff. Also i don't know if filing for a PIL will fix everything, but don't mind giving it a try.
