Default Thane SPCA - Hell for animals

Being an animal lover I paid a visit to Thane SPCA regarding adoption of a dog rescued by one of my friends there. What I saw there brought tears to my eyes. I reached there to find pups who were apparently neutered with their hind legs paralyzed and crawling on their front legs, and no urinary control. A cage with 4 kites petrified, another kite dead rotting with flies all over it. I asked those guys why they didnt bother cleaning the cage, to which the guy replied "The kites will bite me". I was taken aback by the reply. The kites were drinking from the same bowl where one of them had died in. The infection is gonna kill them sooner or later. I was heartbroken.

Went in the office and saw a abandoned golden retriever come wagging its tail towards me. I sat down to pet her and found the most horrifying wound on her paw, which was barely there. The flesh was exposed and she was strutting around in the same place the rest of them were peeing and I again asked the people why they haven't had any bandage/dressing to the wound to which the woman again replies "Usko nazar laga hai, uska wounds theek nahi hoga". My mind was filled with disgust.

I looked back and saw the same dog my friend told me about. She had rescued a tibetian terrier which she found in front of her house a few days ago. The SPCA president Shakuntala Majumdar had later yelled at the little girl and asked her not to dare come anywhere close to the dog/SPCA because she had reserved it for her own friend who apparently had a male and could use a mate. I tried getting in touch with her about it only to realize she was threatening me as well. I tried sending her a few messages but no avail. I tried getting in touch with the police to get permission to click pictures of the sad state of animals but the only thing they kept telling me is this isn't in our territory in 4 diff police stations. The first thing I tell them this was about cruelty to animals, I was laughed at/ By the time I made my way to the 4th police stn it was 3:30am. Disappointed I returned home only to realize I have a police complaint at kashimira police stn. against me the next day. Its 3am again as i write this.

There are thousands of students like me who work for animals under no fancy organization and not for the fame and publicity, with out own money and hard work. But if this is the fate we have to undergo, its not too far when kindness to animals will get a bad name. My parents brought me up with values of kindness towards animals, and to stand up for them. But if this is what I get for doing the right thing then I really doubt the intentions of these organizations and the people in power in such organizations misusing it. Some really bad times ahead in this case. The shocked young girl is testament to this truth.

It is very sad and shocking to hear these things happening specially at the SPCA. Sad that in India there is a big difference between human life and animal life. People open up such centers but neither they have the intention nor the attitude to be responsible. You should probably contact Maneka Gandhi.

Thats very sad, really didnt wanted to read this first thing in morning. Ohhh Atul I can imagine what you would have gone through. lets mail this issue to PETA and then see what they have to see. It would be good if they can visit the place and take action against them.

Day before yesterday, one of my street dog was being beaten up by some a****** with hockey stick in evening, just because Kallu (street dog's name) had a fight with this guy's dog... I was shifting my room so when I saw this I whistled and Kallu came to me and so did other street dogs.... and when that man came towards the dog with the hockey in his hand, I just warned him. he left but after some time I again hear Kallu's screaming for help, this time I didnt say anything snatched his hockey and gave one shot on his legs and thats it...the guy strtd shouting like anything and people collected.... thanks to the stars that some people came and resolved the matter... the guy had his leg bleeding.

I cant understand why are some people so cruel to animals, whereas animals are one living being which will shower you with love, just for a pat on there head....though Kallu is fine now he got some injury in his back which was treated..... but whenever I come to office, I always worry for him

@Shivanshu: Good to know there are people who would still stand up against such lame cruelty against one of the most lovable creatures in this planet. But, sadly, this is the case almost everywhere. It's just that we don't quite get to hear about this, or read about this doesn't make it any less saddening.

People just don't understand that these animals are also living creatures and they can actually feel emotions like pain, love, affection just as we humans do. Looking 'down' on them like they were "slaves" is just not done. This is something which should not be just read or responded to online, but this is a sure-shot case of cruelty against animals and MUST be taken to the concerned authority no-less.

Yes Dada you know, its so lame of us humans to be like this, nobody realizes this that all living beings including HUMANS are a mere MORTAL and everyone who is living is gonna die someday.... so why not respect other living being as well in the tenure of ther lifetime.... I dont know its just quite stupid of us to think that we are the superior most living being. I think we all forgot the Sunami's, the earthquakes, floods, etc and other natural disasters happened all over the world. And still we dont get the point is that "DONT MESS WITH NATURE, AS WE CANNOT FIGHT NATURE"

Sorry Atul, for posting my incidence in your thread. Well get your name off police records bhai.

Atul - give me a call mate...next time you go on these visits take some bigger guys along. I can't stand animal cruelty but these workers you deal with are only there for the money - this is a job for them...not a passion.

Things are VERY different in Chennai blue-cross society. I used to take my own pet there for vaccination and to play with the other dogs because they used to really take good care of them.

Chennai Blue-Cross also has an owlery for injured owls and other birds of prey. Fully equipped with the gloves for feeding and handling these large birds.

I find mumbai government institutions to be highly apathetic in general towards their duties...
