Lightbulb Calling all lawyers in the house...

I had a very interesting discussion with ashok george the other day, and i realised that as per the guidelines given to the auto industry, If any manufacturer discontinues a model, they have to give support by stocking and supplying parts for the next 7-10 years ( Im not sure of the exact years, but i think its 7 years). I remember it happened in the case of the matiz, and the cielo when it was discontinued, the company confirmed that parts will be available to all owners.

Case in point, yamaha. The RX135 series was discontinued in 2004-2005. Now the RX100 parts are available with the company, which was discontinued in 96, but critical parts like the cylinder block, crank etc are not available for the RX135 series, especially the 5 speed version, which came with a disc brake, and had higher power ( 14.5 bhp vs 12.5 bhp ).

My query to all lawyers, and 2stroke lovers. Can we do something about it?? its only been 5 years since the bikes have been discontinued, and no parts are available for the 5 speed, unless you find some which have been around for ages.

Can we put in a formal complaint to the company, citing this ruling ( obviously we will need the exact rule etc ), and then take matters further???

Any 2 stroke heads listening???

I do have a big list of parts to purchase, and im sure so will others if it works out!! hehe.

@JD-- most of the RXG/RX-Z/RX-135(both 4S and 5S) riders prefer to go in for RX-100's ring and piston set over here and i believe they fit with very little/no mods

May be,
but can it be done with some tinkering? and what modifications would be required?

^what if the whole bore is changed?

@sheel - thats the issue, the bores are not available. No new bores are available for 135 4speed or 5 speed for that matter. I have searched a lot and spoken to a number of company officials, no word on the same.

The point here is, how can they discontinue parts, if the bikes were in production a few years back.

Im yet to see a RXZ 5 speed parts catalog to say the least. I have all the RX135 parts catalogs for the post 2002 models, but is the company taking order for it??

What advantages does a RX-135 has over an RX-100?
^have ridden RX-100 significantly, but very less the RX-135 series and in the short rides, i couldn't really figure out which one is better

Dunno mate, but i am not very sure Yamaha shall come up with something until and unless there is a firm judge with a stern face reading out the orders,

Yamaha is too engrossed selling FZ/Fazer to look into these humdrum things

^miss my 2st

the RX135 is faster in acceleration, top speed etc. thru the gears, the RX100 might have something against it, but otherwise the 135 is faster in other aspects, and the 135 5S with the 14.5 bhp bore, even more so.

I agree with you JD. Btw the only input I can give is: They are supposed to produce parts for 15 years, from the date of stopping production.

JD good initiative man, I am game for it. Lets file a petition or get Right of Information act for the company and see what they have to say.
