you guys r sick for social recognition............is xbhp is all about that.
we are here to help each other and share our experiences..........emphasis on catagory making will spoil the taste and charm of xbhp.

making somebody down will not make anyone rise.thats a low quality mentality.
do some good work dont always ask for social stigma or status.
stop making each other down........its reflects your own image.

No. Anonymous posting will only lead to more problems like abusive language, flaming, brand wars, fanboyism to name a few. The forum is good the way it is! Just keep the good talk flowing!

i share my experience of a rep system. The other tech forum that i am a regular on, i was one of the most repped members ( always at positions 1-4). And for all genuine posts. But then the rep system does get abused and people just start repping each other for no reason.

I think a "thanked x number of times", or thanked for a post would be a better way to show appreciation, since the posts which have been appreciated would be visible to other members as well.

my 2 cents.

Why not have a reputational based system! With 25k+ members, & each of them giving away free advice (most of them posting without much knowledge), it makes more sense if the person seeking advice can know which members' advice can be taken more seriously than others'.
I can't seem to figure out how the charm will go away.

The "Thanks" & "No Thanks" is a good system indeed. Have seen it on pagalguy.com

The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back;
and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.

While we are on the subject of suggestions. May I request that the 'What Bike' section should be locked so that only the Senior members(or members with above a certain nos. of posts) can give their advice. More often than not a newbie lands on one of those old threads, makes some revolting post and that lights everybody's fire.

An example for the same from the News section:

That would be wrong.
Not everyone is a mod.
And the mods are too busy and overworked.
How about adding me to the list of the moderators

This IS OT but since you've been around quite long and been a positive contributor to the forum, I shall respond to your query.

The member 'It's Me' was banned not for one single post but for a series of misdemeanors knowingly committed on the forum over a period of time. Within barely a month and a half of his arrival on the forum, he was warned twice and infracted once for being rude and over-stepping established boundaries of on-forum behaviour. Yet he did not restrain himself from showing what is colloquially called 'attitude' these days, a surprisingly neutral term both for the best and the worst a person can offer of himself/herself.

Your guess about the post you've highlighted as being the reason for his banning is wrong. That particular post was rude and offensive to the point of being abusive. This was inspite of being warned by Sunny just a couple of posts before he 'exploded' with his attitude.

Maintaining forum decorum and protecting the rights of members to freely express themselves is the paramount purpose for the presence of mods here. Sit through a 10-member group discussion, without any controlling element, and watch what happens. Now scale it up to some 400,000 posts (each is an interaction) and you'll realise what moderation is all about.

This is a very very rare occurrence when an explanation is being put forth about a certain action instituted against an erring member. This shall definitely not be a regular feature and I request members to please trust and respect the abilities and efforts of the moderators who are doing an already difficult job and that too on a purely voluntary basis.
