Lightbulb Bike Safety campaign – Let the actual biker words reach the Masses !!!

When I touched the bike first time after my college (yes, you heard it right), I never know the charm of being a biker (I still feel I’m improving it everyday) till I actual in contact with few people who gave new dimension and new meaning to it. It was just a home to office and office to home business for first 2 years. After I got my Bajaj avenger 200, I felt a need to be called myself a Biker. I did few things which did and sometime didn’t helped me so much to make myself a biker in my own conscious mind. Riding Chennai to Pondy and back was my first baby step to feel the heat of the road.

Some time people gave me strange look in my office when they make a gang and chit chat in their free time and I spend hours reading about travelogue in Xbhp. It didn’t bother me so much that time rather it was a good feeling if people come and ask about some issues they face in bike (knowing me as a guy who love reading about bikes).

That’s just me but now I will come to the point. We all talk about bikes, rides, safety and few other stuffs which are helping each and every one of us every day but all those talks sits in the forums of Xbhp and never go out.

I always wanted to run a campaign on safety of the bikers in India(I know a very big thing to say, but hey, no dream is too big). Talking about actual day today problem what they face in commuting and how they can become targets of some bike haters on the road. Its just an Idea I want to put forward. Campaign need to be started across School, colleges and corporate to teach them basic of biking which can make them little bit more safe on the road. Let the Voice of the Xbhp reach all those people out there who know nothing or very less about the safety.

My target will be –

  • College Guys / Gals.
  • Corporate firms.

I know it will not be easy and I will definitely do it (starting from my office if possible) and take it further.

Its just a idea which came in my mind today morning when a guy fell down from 30km/h scooty and later admitted to ICU just because of absence of helmet. It was a sad scene.

Need help and support if possible. Lets make it official and let it be another success from Xbhp saddle.

Some of my initial thoughts to get it started:

1) Start collecting all the information needed to get your point across. Lots of pictures, statistics(general state of the Indian traffic, injuries/deaths due to accidents, impact of wearing riding gear or not, cost of medical expenses vs cost of gear, etc.

Just sit back and think about what you would like to stress on. When you have the flow in your mind, start gathering info effectively. It should be more visual than a lot of text since people retain images/videos in their memory than words. I can help you with the presentation once you have all the info.

2) Create a small website with all the info. I'm sure xbhp can help here by hosting it on its servers. Otherwise I can host the website on my private server.

3) Once these are ready, you could sit down and chalk out a plan on how to effectively reach target institutions/ corporates.

More later...

@Bluevolt - Thanks fo the direction and thoughtful reply mate . I already started spending some extra time on this stuff. You are right about the pictorial and video presentations as they stick in mind for much longer then the simple words.

Let me keep above points in mind and make a blue print of the stuffs and try to give a shape to the idea. Many thanks for giving your helping hand, I really feel this can be done !!!

Will keep thread alive with all the updates I have.

This is a very noble thought my friend. Keep up the good work. Let your thoughts be put into action.

Definitely I agree that Road Safety should be imparted right from School and institutions considering the fact that India ranks the TOPMOST in the number of deaths and injuries through road accidents.

Shillong xBhpians is currently progressing with the Road Safety Campaign for 2011. I guess you might as well work as a team for farther reachablity of the awareness. So far we have finished with the public Rally, we are moving towards using posters in vehicles for the awareness to motorists as well as in Schools and colleges. And right now two of the xBhpians viz. Benny and Rupert are already with the Lafarge Umiam Mining Pvt. Ltd to give a presentation/training session to the motorists of this mining corporate.
More details will be coming up in case you would like to get some ideas and info in your campaign.
here is the link: Meghalaya Road Safety Awareness Campaign 2011

Good Luck!

Good luck, and do ping me for whatever help you need.
As a starting point, I would definitely recommend using the ridesafewith.me websites content for education.. (Provided the CEAT - xBhp is ok with it)

A big hand for you to think about such an intiative. I would suggest you to form a unit or group of similar minded individuals including xbhpians from chennai or place where you want to start the campaign and create suitable presentations and videos that could convey the message. often a group could convey a message better than an individual. Also awareness and importance of traffic rules and signs are mostly absent with a good percentage of motorists. Wishing you all success in your endeavors.
