Default The Indian Biking Scene – My Article....!!!

My first go at writing...

Penned this yesterday night...Read on ..to know different types of Indian bikers.

1. The 2-wheeled runabout uncle.
Has a bike which he frequently refers to as ‘Gaadi’/’Gaddi’. This bike of his would never have seen 80 KPH in its lifetime. Normally a ~100cc~4 stroke~70 Kmpl thing. He never talks about speed but is proud and boasts about mileageto his heart’s content.

2.The college-going/flunking ‘DUDE’
Normally fancies a 2-stroker~100cc~dunno about mileage~sort of a bike. Never wears a helmet. Mad about attracting the opposite sex while on the bike. Has a tendency to raise the throttle even if a vehicle is 10 feet ahead. Rides an inherited bike/ friend’s bike. Fuel in the tank never goes up above ‘reserve’. Never seen 100+ speeds.

3.The college topper
Ride a ‘Hero Puch’. Takes 100 bucks from parents. Fills petrol for the full 100 bucks. Need I say more?

4.The mechanic a.k.a. Raju
Has a custom-made drag strip~(which is nostly bylanes in his colony). Wears brown stained clothing.Never wears a helmet. Would not think of wearing one even if given free! Menace for the residents who constantly pray for his demise. Normally leaves a trail of smoke behind.

5.The Stunt-man
A regular on stunts. Wears safety gear. Will enthrall his audience. Can be a treat to watch when provoked. Never perfect. Does’nt boast on what he’s done. Adrenaline machine.

6.The thumpers
The so-called Bulleteers. Dunno, but seem to possess a 350cc always. Where have the 500s gone? They are of a different tribe. Pride shows on their face. 50-50 chances of finding one with a helmet. For some reason, some of them think ‘Bandanas’ are safer ! They never try to fool around in traffic – ‘coz they can’t. The most probable ones to be found on the highway – coolly chugging along. Will smile when u pass by.

7.The avid biker
Does the usual work in weekdays. Prefers long rides rather than pub-hopping. Occassionally takes the helmet off to feel the wind. Calm, serene in nature. Talks sense. Beginner in stunts. Wants power with a li’l stress on mileage. Likes to show off his bike rather than himself. Can ride alone blissfully for long distances. Thinks more of his machine than his girlfriend.

8.The BBMs ~(Big bore machines ~ Superbikes)
A mysterious cult. Always show up at the wrong places where they are least expected. Flaunt their bikes. They never rip on city roads. Move like a rolling ball. Very rarely seen on highways. Wonder where they satisfy their and their machine’s hunger.

Did I miss something?[?]
