Default xBhp Announcement:Watermark your pictures

Last month had given me enough time to visit various forums and blogs. I even had the chance to look at some important automotive documents. I was shocked to see that everywhere pictures of xBhp have been used (The better word is stolen) without given any credit of source. Some people had even gone ahead and watermarked the pictures with their names and all. Although I know how to copyright images and all but never bothered to take the pain but these visits made me learn the importance of watermarking. So guys please watermark your images before posting on forum pages. You will never know who will use your image for what purpose and claim mileage for same.

Here is a simple process on how to watermark your pictures

1) Open the image in Adobe Photoshop

2) Click Alt+Shift+Ctrl+S(Save for web). A page will be opened where you will see that the file size has reduced. For example a 1.3mb file will reduce into 150kb.Click save to reduce the image size.

3) Now click "Ctrl+N". This will make a New Layer. Make sure that you select "Background Content" as "Transparent".

4) Now hide the Background or Main Layer. This is done simply by clicking on the little “eye” on the left of “Background”.

5) Click the “Type Tool” to add text on Layer 1 that has been added. Select your text formatting options such as font type, font size etc.

6)Rasterize the layer by right clicking on it.

7) Apply Emboss(Filter>Stylize>Emboss). Keep Angle at 135,Height-3,Amount-100.

8) Change the blend mode of the Layer from “Normal” to “Hard Light” to make watermark merge with image. The icon will be there in layers pallete.

9) Now click add “Layer Style” from the bottom of layers pallete and select Blending Options. Adjust the settings according to your liking.

10) Finally right click on Background(Select the Background Layer by again clicking that little eye) layer and select “Merger Visible”.

Your watermarking job is done. This is not as difficult as it looks like and hardly takes 1 min per image.

P.S:If anyone know a simpler process then he can very well add it here.

I have a couple of suggestions.
  1. All pictures a member submits will be of the same dimension. Therefore, once the watermarking is complete for the first picture, we could save that file as a watermark template. Next time, it is enough to copy the image to be watermarked and paste it into this template and just save it as a new image. This way, the watermarking becomes a template process.
  2. The second option is similar, but a little different. We could complete the watermarking text alone and rasterize it to make it a single layer. Save this small photoshop file containing one layer with the text as the template. When a new image has to be watermarked, just copy this layer from the template on to any image that has to be watermarked.
Both these processes will end up in 5-10 seconds max.

I guess vBulletin has a feature which watermarks all images uploaded through the upload tool. That would be the best and the easier option.
