I just got a call from Manan that a biker group has created chaos in the Delhi MTV auditions today. The auditions were canceled and Delhi was blacklisted because of this. Can someone shed some light on this?

MTV Roadies Delhi auditions cancelled after stampede Posted on 2008-10-03 06:10:14
MTV 'Roadies' Delhi auditions cancelled after stampede, baton charge New Delhi, Oct 3 (IANS) Delhi auditions of adventure reality TV show MTV 'Roadies' were cancelled Friday when a group of young men barged into the auditorium and shattered windowpanes leading to a stampede. The police resorted to a cane-charge to disperse the agitating crowd. About 5,000 people had gathered Friday morning for the auditions of the sixth season of the popular show at the NCUI auditorium in south Delhi's Hauz Khas area. People, mostly youth, lined up at the venue since 7 a.m. though the gates for the registration were thrown open only at 9 a.m. Eyewitnesses said things were moving smoothly and group discussions had begun when suddenly a group of young men entered the main foyer area and started vandalising the premises by smashing windowpanes and turning chairs upside down. They group also tried to damage a motorbike in the display area besides burning posters of the show. The reason for the attack was not clear. The organisers, who had deployed nearly 100 security men, called the police after they failed to control the mob and bring the situation under control. "People started jumping across the wall, and there was a stampede. Suddenly in the foyer area, there were some 150 odd people who started acting funny and breaking things up," Vaibhav Vishal, associate vice president of Shows, MTV India, told IANS. "They began to break the window panes and threw flower pots. They even damaged cameras. We realised that some guys were here just to create trouble and because the safety and security of the people were paramount to us, we decided to call off the auditions." "Had we not stopped the auditions, those guys would have done some bodily harm to some people," said Vishal, who was facilitating the group discussions. The audition in Delhi was the fifth of six being conducted in the country. Participants have already been selected from Kolkata, Bangalore, Chandigarh and Ahmedabad. Seeing the situation getting out of control, the organisers called the police who resorted to a mild baton charge. An eyewitness said that over 10 people were injured in the clash with the police. However, it could not be independently confirmed. "I came here at 8 a.m. with my friends and there was a huge rush. There was not enough space in the auditorium to accommodate everyone, which led to the problem. "As we were waiting for our turn suddenly police began to baton-charge. Several people were injured as everyone tried to move out," said 20-year-old Shailey, whose friend Vibha was injured in the incident and rushed to the AIIMS trauma centre. Anuj, a Delhi University student who had come for the audition, said: "Several people were injured in the cane-charge. I saw a woman bleeding profusely after a baton hit her head." The participants also complained that there was no proper arrangement made at the audition venue to deal with the huge rush. Ashish Patil, senior vice president and general manager MTV India, said around 5,000 people had turned up for the Delhi auditions. "Even though all arrangements were in place, you can still never be sure with this kind of turnout. In the interest of everyone's safety, we have decided to cancel the Delhi leg of MTV Roadies auditions for now," Patil said. Vishal said: "As for the baton charge, we cannot control the police. We had 100 security men of our own plus the Delhi Police. Enough security was there but after the chaos, we couldn't have controlled them. Baton charge was their decision." Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Delhi) H.G.S. Dhaliwal said: "There was no baton charge. In fact, our officers dealt with the situation very peacefully." The organisers said they were assessing the scenario and trying to figure out how to get more people in. Every year at least three to four people from Delhi make it to the final top 13. "We shall soon announce the alternate date and plan for the Delhi auditions," he added. people gathered at 5:30am and were in a queue..
at around 8:30 they were given their respective batch numbers. forms started distributing at 9 once they were in ...(many people were also having the printout version of their filled in forms..) but inside is where the drama happened at about 10am. ... some people outside created the kayos, outside out of the gates where all security was and there some fenders fell on the ground in the catapult that was created by the motion... the inside people who were on stage were tried to be rushed outside out of the gates and in that some of the berserk public collided with the stage. thus the news of stage being broken was also there... then at around 11am Mtv folks announced that there would be no auditions people were found waiting till the evening 6pm... but there was no news about the next audition date... all the cops could say was that the next announcements would be made on the net. what I've written is not my account on first person... my friend who was there told me the inside part when I went there to pick him. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- disparaging the Mtv show Roadies for the sucking behaviour of the participants is wrong.. and that too by calling them the sissy bikers...? according to me a biker is one who loves his bike and rides without a destination. and on this definition all qualify including the ones who are found hidden behind their helmet(when they should have been feeling the wind). having a good quality gear is not the only definition of biker and biking... if we see the awareness levels that we have in India then we have to make our criteria a little more broad... what if the guy wants to have fun with the chick sitting and oggling at his back... Is he not a biker...? ... he is a biker... atleast he chose the bike not the car for this beautiful reason. ! biking is for fun... and should never be used to splash attitude on the ones who are unable to afford good gear and heavy cc bikes.(this attitude was found on some posts above so I'd to write my opinion...if it hurts the egos of some, kindly spare me the punishment.. )

Thanks Leon and Ankit. At least someone replied on the topic rather than talking nonsense and OT.
I only know of two bike related shows in India : Champ and MTV Roadies. At least the latter carries some sophistication and is indeed a reality show which has bought biking to the masses. |

Sorry I'm not very diplomatic.. Ankit, thanks for the info. Guess the entire thread was to make sure that this wouldn't be another excuse for parts of the media to rant about irresponsible behaviour of bikers in 'general'. So that purpose of the thread is served, but you've brought in fresh meat! 'Hiding' behind the helmet? Can't compromise on safety can we? Thats what a major part of xBhp is these.. Bikers and Safety. And feeling the wind your face? You might want to try sailing. Quote:
Does no good to the chick and her pretty face if both of them are kissing the tarmac, right? 21 years old and I already know a million other ways to have fun. You seriously have to spend more time here bro, try understanding biking better. And for sure, more cc's and complete riding gear definitely doesn't make a biker. I agree |
