Cool Anyone wants jackets/gloves/boots from US?

I have a friend in US, who lost his job last month, and is coming to India next month. He is trying to find whether he can bring some goods that can be sold at bit profit, so that his ticket can get sponsored. I suggested him to get bike jacket, because I thought there are some great deals in US, and even at a bit premium people would buy it, coz there will be no customs hessle to be dealt with.

So here is the deal. You can get any jacket/glove/boots from US, and there are many closeouts going on on mesh jacket (I bought a Alpinestar jacket in 70$ last week). The handling cost will be as under:

$35 per jacket (delivery in Mumbai/Pune). Outstations will have to bear the cost of transport in India.
$10 per glove pair.
$15 per boot pair.

I shop at motorcycle-superstore.com, because they give free shipping in US for orders above $75, and $5 off on shopping above $100 (both offers can be combined).

Please note that this handling cost is additional to the 'shipped cost' of the goods in US. You can specify any website from which you want to buy. Also, the shipping cost cannot be combined, so it applies to each item you buy.

I am getting total 'zero dollars' from this deal, as I am just passing this along, to help that friend as well as fellow bikers. Mods, if this is against any rule, please let me know.

He will be leaving on Feb first/second week, so please order fast. We can also get some deal on laptop/camera/mp3 player, but haven't worked the handling cost yet.

If he wants to make a profit, ask him to get tyres and chain sets. That is where the profit margins are. Just make a quick survey and find out. You get Michelin 2CT for as little as $80 and here we end up paying more than $300-350

Thanks for approving the topic Sunny!

@Ken Cool: I myself am not too sure about tyres importing, and he is completely unaware of it, coz he is not a biker. If you have any deal in mind where both the biker and this guy can get benifitted, please do share.

@all: I bought the Alpinestars ACR Jacket for 71$ from motorcycle-superstore.com. It's on closeout, marked down from $180. That site gives free shipping on orders above $75, so I added some more stuff.

Anyways if you are getting Alpinestars jacket or the likes in $100-$110, and that too in hand without any customs hessle, i think it's a great deal.

@ani: How much customs would you be paying on top of that $71 Alpinestar riding jacket? I am interested to know as I am looking for a good riding jacket, myself.

Thanks for the support guys!

My friend will be carrying all the stuff along with him. As he is coming alone, he is allowed some KG weight in the baggage, and some in hand, plus he will be wearing one jacket if the need be. He has one jacket n gloves pair already (that alpinestars ACR jacket and Teknic SMT gloves for me) As long as he is carrying them as private clothes, he need not pay any duty. Therefore, your final cost will be the shipped cost to US + 35$/$15/$10 (handling) + shipping from Mumbai/Thane/Satara/Sangli/Pune to your city (0 if you can meet at any of the place). The first 2 parts will be converted to INR by that day's US$-INR rate. Last part is in INR only.

@inder.cool: Don't buy from ridegear. They hardly have anything in stock, there are lots of complaints. Pls stick with newenough.com/motorcycle-superstore.com/motogearoutlet.com and such sites. I think $10 should cover the shipping to India.

I hope max people get benefit of this deal. I will suggest you to find good deals on mesh jacket with liners, and gloves. Currently there is winter in US, and hence you can find lots of good deals on mesh jacket. You can try ebay.com as well (pls check the seller's ratings before confirming your order).

Here is the link of stuff I ordered:

Alpinestars ACR Air-Flo Jacket - Motorcycle Superstore

Teknic SMT Gloves - Motorcycle Superstore

As I am planning to use the jacket without liner only (my better half will be using it with liner ) i consulted with newenough.com, and they suggested I get a Small size for 40 chest, 34 waist and use without liner.
