I really do not not know if this thread makes some sense and the title really tries to potray a simple meaning.
Every sensible biker thinks of buying good protective gear as soon as purchasing his steed.Well why not? Its money well spent.Yes we do get loads of hins and hitches from people all around but we surely are a differnt breed altogether(arent we )Not being legally allowed to ride,I still do not own my pair of wheels .But thanks to the generosity of my friends,I ride up and down whenever possible.Althogh I have two proper helmets,I really do not find the need to buy some other protective gear. But today I ,just for some fun, went ahead and rode a Karizma with an armoured jacket, proper gloves, knee guards and of course a helmet...and to my surprise I felt very nice!I mean...the feeling was just so good! I know the way I ride and mind you,I do ride very sensibly and follow every rule possible. But this time ,It was a different thing.I felt so confident.I felt I could ride more seriously . Was it psycological..maybe yes.,but it has changed the way i used to look upon riding gears. They are not only to help you protect from injuries, but actually look good.I felt I really looked cool with the bright red jacket and gloves and matte black knee guards! Even the nice helmet provided protection to my 'not so good looking' face! ![]() My perception towards riding gears have really changed and I truly look forward to invest in some good protective gear.

Yeah i've too felt that sense of purpose the gear and helmet beckons from it's rider, it's sort of like going out to play cricket with all the gear for the first time, you may have played the game all your life but when you gear up, you feel you complete and feel like a professional player. Similarly people too take you seriously and consider you to be a breed apart

I've been through this when my front wheel caught an oilslick when leaning left. I lowsided. This was at 10.30 pm, the streets were dimly lit, & there wan an Indicab behind me . My confidence shattered, it was only a year since I started riding. I got a pair of elbow, knee guards, reflective jacket; Looked like a clown, & heard it all. Good gear is the thin line b/w walking away & limping away/wheeled away. These days I dont wear my gear at night much; I'm more sedate like a lamb at dusk, but the reflecive jacket stays.Riding Gear doesnt hurt; road rashes do. Loads of OT & loving it.

augusta, your post is no less than a chapter from biker's bible. Glad to see the "faith", building in in you so early. Gears not only make you look good but definitely increases your potential as a rider. I always wonder why xbhpians only post "which bike to choose" rather than "which gear to choose with the new bike" ?

It's good to see you intrested in riding gear but you did mention that you're not legally allowed to ride so it means you don't have a license which is not a good thing!
But hey we all did it didn't we !
