Default Two Sides of a Coin...err Pune

In this story, there are three pivotal characters; one of them is me, the others will be explained a bit later. But let me start from where it all started.
I usually try to cycle down to my office at least once a week. I recently bought a Hero Octane NV with 21 gears (Shimano), aluminum frame, front and rear shock absorbers. This was probably one of the wisest investments in terms of returns on investment. I do cycle for an hour every morning on the Vimannagar-Airport road and as mentioned earlier, I try to ride my cycle to my office at least once a week. I have done that only twice before : D.
Yesterday, I had taken my cycle to the office and it was almost 7:30-7:45 PM when I decided to ride back home. Starting off from GE Plaza opposite Gunjan Theatre, I cycled towards the Airport on the old Airport Road. Just when I was about to reach the golf course signal, a couple of hooligans on a Hero Honda Passion, brand new and unregistered, came on from the wrong side of the road, at full speed and high beam. For a couple of milliseconds, I was stunned by the high beam and the wrong side approach. I was on the cycle track of this road at that time. These idiots brushed past me almost putting me off balance. I simply turned back and shouted "Oyee".

This is where the second character needs introduction; a typical slum youth in his teens, bollywood type belbots and a white shirt with a few open buttons, gutka in mouth and a funky hair style. He stopped and looked back at me. I had stopped to gain balance and looked back. Since he was too far to hear my voice, I gestured in a way asking "what the hell were you thinking?" He started shouting all sorts of abuses at me. In the coming few minutes, he managed to verbally abuse and swear upon my entire family. All those who have been in this part of Pune might know that this is a notorious part. Slums and all notorious hooligans. I stood my ground and he turned back with an abuse, every centimeter of his travel. He braked besides me and the following conversation took place (translated from Hindi to English)

Him: you $^#%$@&^, how dare you swear at me??? You called me be@@#%#$? &*&@^&@&^()(@^!@^%*&@#
Me: It was you who came from the wrong side...you almost crashed into me...
Him: How dare you ..
After this, he kicked my cycle I was standing but my cycle was down and my adrenaline and temper was on the highest levels. Just then I realized that I was severely outnumbered. Suddenly, I remembered Gore's story on xBhp where he was manhandled by locals. With all the local goons standing beside me, had I objected or created a further scene, they would have really wasted no time in downloading all their life's frustration on me.
Sensing this, I picked up my cycle and started walking off
Him: you ^@%#, where are you going..
And he tried to kick my cycle again. At this moment there was a voice of a stranger
Stranger: what happened?
This stranger deserves introduction. A hefty fellow in clean clothes looked a lot like Ramesh Powar (IPL).
Him: This ^#$%^#&*@, was swearing at me...
Stranger: When?
Him: Right now...
Stranger: I was right here when you passed him...you almost threw him off balance, he simply shouted "Oyee"...it was you who started swearing..
Him: No, he swore at me first...
Stranger: you live here in this basti right? Near (some name he mentioned)'s house...in this lane right?
Him: Yes
Stranger: you think you are a bhai in this area? do you know who I am?
Him: Yes (he kept on looking at the stranger with a bit of anger)
Before I knew it the Stranger landed his huge palm on the rider's left cheek. Man o Man, what a heartening sight. This was beyond my expectations. Before I could enjoy it, down came salvo 2 and 3 on the same cheek. The stranger was beating the living daylights out of this guy and believe me, each time his huge palm landed on this guy's cheek, it made me dance with joy.
Stranger: first you come on the wrong side of the road, then you try to harm poor and decent citizens and what else, you kick this decent man's cycle?
This motorcycle rider was beaten very nicely. The stranger turned to me and said "Saab, you leave, I will handle this...”

I simply picked up my cycle and pushed away

At the end of it, where there was an irritable twit with his attitude, the second side to the coin was the stranger who supported me and prevented any injustice. Two sides of the same coin…As for me, I will continue to ride my bicycle to office once a week

As much as I wanted to know his name, the amount of crowd accumulated there and the public attention that this episode was garnering, I thought that it would be wise to leave and I just thanked him and left the place.

I will try to look out for the stranger while passing the same spot (seems like he was a local there)...just to say a leisurely thank you!

But be careful for the next few days. Those goons might be on a lookout for u for revenge. These kind of pple generally do not let bygones be bygones u see !
I have a feeling that stranger might have been in police!

Next time you see those goons, pls put the 21 gears in ur bike to good use !!
Be safe mate !!
