Smile From Rags to Riches:My Rebuild Monster 180 RTR

I initially had new plans for my bike. Was about to take the R15 as my RTR 160 was giving me nightmares by it fuel efficiency and constant niggling issues. Decided to sell the bike (though it had a special corner in my heart as many memories down the lane), get the R15 and send It to Joel for its rebuild. Joel told me what can be done to bring out the monster in the bike and everything was well set. I also told Joel about my RTR and its efficiency when he laughed and tried to explain me what potential the RTR has got. I wasn’t interested so dint pay much heed to it.

The deal was done and I was supposed to let the bike go at 7 in the evening, but before that I clicked some pictures of it along with my girlfriend(memories sake) in the morning. My girlfriend gave it a goodbye kiss and it was away ready to take on its new possessor. Excitingly I was with the dealer waiting for the final go until my dad called said” Adnan, you are not selling the bike!” I was dumb struck, dint know what to tell. After some embarrassing moments with the dealer I finally came home with the bike. I argued with dad for not letting me sell the bike.

I tried the selling the bike 2 mores times after this but couldn’t as something or the other was stopping me . God showed up with many coincidences that I later realized that the bike was meant was just meant for me.

I somehow got the bike back to its normal state and was okay with it. After 3 months I recalled Joel saying about the robust nature of the RTR. I rang him up immediately and explained about my bike. I told him what I was seeking for. He asked me to come down to Bangalore along with the bike.

After reaching there Joel simply showed sympathy as how my bike was running, but asked me not to worry as it will be perfect after the Rebuild. Everything was done and Joel asked me to come after 10 days to recollect my ride. I set back for Hyderabad and was severely paralyzed as I dint had my bike.

I was anxiously waiting for those 10 days to phase out faster but it dint. Day by day I was becoming more and more restless about the bike, until the day came. I left for Bangalore, this time more organized headed straight to Joel’s garage. I was all excited to find my bike standing with all the work done.

Now from here is what the Main part starts……..

Took the keys and went for a short spin. Though some final work had to be carb to which it dint allow the bike to throttle more than 5k RPM I could still feel the huge difference in the bike. All in all it was pulling so damn cleanly that I cudnt resist grinning all the time.
Everything was done in sometime and the bike was ready to head back home. Joel advised me a strict running – in. Once back in Hyderabad I decided to test what the so called” most potiential” has to offer. I was simply bowled by its CLEAN PERFORMANCE. The way the needle was climbing its all its way to redline was amazing. The exhaust note was loud ,crisp astounding. Earlier the bike used to run out breath at 8.5 k RPM, but now you simply don’t know when it hits 11 k. With a higher gear even in low speed the way the bike pulls with such alacrity, that its very easy to cross sane speeds. I used to max out 117 kmph with a pillion and that too after so much of hell effort, but now with a pillon my bike does 130 kmph in no time. I was actually wondering how it went so fast. Haven’t tested the top speed yet as it’s still in the running period. Also, its much more smoother even when compared to a new RTR

Decided to compare it with the P220…..

Though I weighed more than my rival he was far way behind me. There was atleast 3 bike’s distance separating us and the road was well a km long. He simply gave up and I could see his face giving the expression ” WTF “. The Fastest Indian Lost To The RTR (no offence meant to the owners).
I love flaunting this tagline “ A P220 Fades away In my RVM”

My bike has become such an insane that I’m astonished and curse myself for the thought of selling it before.

Some Mods Done for this upbringing:
 182cc bore
 Fully modified Head
 Inlet valve
 Free Flow Xhaust
 Bigger Carb etc….

PS: I was complaing about my efficiency issues to each and every expert here is Hyderabad, still it used to give me 15-20 to a litre. Before the rebuild it drastically dropped to 8-10.
And now its giving 40kms to litre on hard riding and 45 to sedate.

And Joel thanks a ton for showing patience and giving me what I wanted.

Congratulations... I am sure you have fallen in love with her once again. Keep in mind the smallest of instructions that Joel gave on handling her. He says things in a very low scale manner, but every word counts. Cheers.

Adnan, great effort and am sure it will be a memorable decision to you for a long time to come. I'm glad that your over 6 months of nagging for better power and a good bike ends here. Still remember how you were contemplating getting rid of this freaking RTR & owning an R15... but this new wine in old bottle would hold your spirits up happily for some years to come.
