Alrighty, so this so called project was named by me after the ZMR came in and I wanted to get those fabulous handlebars on my zma. But I wasnt sure how successful it would be & hoped somebody would try it out by then. Rightly so, the first thing that struck people minds when they laid their hands on the ZMR, was why the heck aint HH giving these awesome aluminium clipons on the Karizma?! But little over time, steady sales but even slow spare availability meant that the clipons weren't going to be available any sooner. Not anymore. Finally, theres a breath of fresh air and this project which was about to take off last year, now got accomplished successfully within 2 days time( though not on my bike but nevertheless!). So heres the story...
Once the ZMR spares started coming in stock I kept a track on the handlebar set. But mid way I too lost time because of work and luckily happened to contact my friend whos also the head mechanic at Fortpoint, Mahim, good ol' Kevin. I gave him a call regd this so called project and whether it was possible or not. Very co-incidently & luckily he replied that he had just begun work on a zma and was going through the process slowly. Kept the phone and went to FP the next day. Heres what followed. We think and thought it may be an easy process of fitting the clip-ons onto the zma but its not. Firstly, the lower T has to make way for the zmr T as shown here: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Then, the handle mounting gets modified a little bit and the ZMAs fork has to be extended by 2 inches. The main concern for every ZMA owner on fitting the clip ons is how the bike will turn, whether the bars touch the visor or mirrors get mounted properly or no, and whether the seating position gets altered, do I have to adjust myself to grip the handle properly etc etc. The answer to all this is 'NO PROBLEMO!' Then, today morning, i buzzed Kevin about the udpate and he said the work is done, have a look so while returning home after work got a chance to feel this 'new' zma and boy! it felt great. Successful fitting & congratulated Kevin for the great effort. The whole thing took 2 days, and it was all worth it. Whatever doubts I had in mind vanished as I just sat on the bike for a little bit. The positioning of the clipons is bang on and theres no crouched position, it retains the Karizma's sporty yet cruise style position. More than that, once doesnt at all have to adjust a wee bit, it feels like the old handle bar setup. Fit itna mast, no adjust!! I mean seriously, this felt like magic. The mirrors were also bang on perfect in position as they are and the turning was also the same( still dont understand why isnt HH making this move). Infact, the whole thing looked so gorgeous I wanted to immediately take the bike out for a spin. The wires werent grouped since the brackets werent in stock & the starter would be lowered later. A day prior I had seen a Karizma with the ZMRs tail panel!! Well, everythings possible and heres the 'new' ZMA for you. Trust me, if the racer version of the bike does get upgraded, this is what you shall see in the future. looks gorgeous doesnt she! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() No fork nuts reqd here: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The Karizma got even sweeter! ![]() The damages are as follows: 1x clip on bar each side: 1560 each. the mount plate: 500-1000 rs. 1 x T: 1000 rs & labor extra...Sums up to around 4500-5000 rupees which I say IS a tad expensive. But given the benefits of clipon bars and their purpose, I see many bikers going in for this very soon. Its such a delight to see those forged aluminum bars on the ZMA now. Superb stuff, riders thinking of doing this, I got just three words for ya...GO FOR IT!! The only hiccup is spare availability. Its a little expensive modification, but totally worth it. Many thanks to the owner Santosh for getting his bike into this project ![]() & a big thank you to Kevin for putting in the hard work. Great job mate! Ride report will follow after a couple of days time. Ride safe, Mehul.

Neat , But expensive.
If from a vfm factor , then its a no for me . The zma's handle bar was comfortable enough .If this mod worked out at half the price , good enough. Santa

SAntoosh: yes expensive mod but given the hit the zma handle takes when the bike falls everytime, doing this mod is then a 'must do' as the clip ons are rigid and sturdy. Plus they make the bike look even more classier
which I really really loved about the whole thing.

Pardon me, but I would like to know the advantages of the clip on over the normal handle bar. Because as far as my old school knowledge goes, I believe the straighter the handle bar, the better handling and stability one would get. One thing I love the FZ for is the handle bar!
![]() I was just curious on whether the project is worth the money and effort, because according to me, the ZMA's handle is just fine! Please correct me if I am wrong. And don't take it in a wrong sense. I just want to know the advantages, apart from the clip ons looking good, which too is subjective. Thanks!

Turning the bike using clip ons which are attached to the fork diectly is easier , than the conventional handlebar where it is attached to the T stem.
One main advantage.. Santa

Kurt: I second Santosh with that. The handle felt nimble, looks kept apart you need to pick up one clip on and see. Its really sturdy and wont get bent in case the bike falls or crashes. Manans ZMR has crashed so many times now & he hasnt changed his clipons. But again it depends on the severity of the crash.
One more technical thing, as all clipons are adjustable the Honda ones arent. But they are fixed in a great position making them excellent for sporty and laidback style riding, which you need check up personally.

Way to expensive......i'd rather go ahead and replace the handle bar everytime it crashes. beside there's is no garuntee that the severity of the crash would be less so that the clip on escapes with few scratches.
I dont see much use of this mod execpt for look and a little bit improvement in handling dep! But only one thing looks sore. Iginition set looks odd poking out so much
