bullet 350 is a 1950's bike and runs like one. so by popular opinion bullets are best kept stock. 95% of bulleteers usually never exceed a speed of 60 kmph. the rest 5% are here in xbhp. my bullet is 5 months old and 3200 kms done. the bike is a dream but still i feel that bullet needs a lot of upgrades like a better gearbox, pistons etc... the company is in no mood to bring changes to their classic model, so it's upto u to make ur bullet better. i have seen a lot of bullets which have bigger jets, 18 rear sprockets, but even these minor changes put a noticeable stress on the engine... why ??? coz it still is a 1950's 350cc lump. so after doin a considerable research and thanks to www.hitchcocksmotorcycles.com and 'royalenfield' yahoo group, i have listed below all the parts necessary to make your bullet a 25~bhp bike.
CARBURETOR & AIR FILTERS ![]() the above is a 28mmm carb (same as bullet 500cc) with a conical performace air filter, accelerator cables, choke cables and lever. below are some more pics of the air filter ![]() ![]() MAIN & PILOT JETS ![]() ![]() bullet 350 carb employs 90 main jet and a 25 pilot jet. for better performance u can opt for a 100/105 main jet and a 30 pilot jet. ENGINE as i mentioned above... mods to carbs and airfilters are great, but they put considerable stress on the engine and as a result reduced engine life. PISTONS ![]() This piston gives approximately 8:1 compression compared to 6:5:1 of a stock piston. ![]() These English made piston rings are made up of several rings for each groove. They give better compression and oil control especially if you have a worn bore. CYLINDER HEAD - VALVES ![]() These valves are slimmer in design. The reduced weight and friction coupled with the superior spring arrangement and alloy top collars allow a greater rev range. The kit comprises of valves, springs, guides, collars and collets. TIMING CASE - CAM SHAFTS ![]() a very fast road or competition cam based on a very successful road race profile 3 WAY TIMING PINION ![]() This timing pinion has 3 different key ways. Standard, advance and retarded. These 3 positions allow you to change the cam timing of your Bullet. Advancing the cam timing will give you low down torque for pulling power, whilst the retarded setting will push your peak power up the rev range giving you a better revving engine for more top end performance. HIGH CAPACITY OIL PUMP FEED & RETURN ![]() This English made product delivers over 50% more oil than the standard item ![]() This return uses a 11mm plunger and returns more oil than the standard pump. CLUTCH & GEARBOX CLUTCH ![]() This is the same clutch as HC use on belt drive kit. However it has been specifically adapted to suit the standard chain drive. It is an economical way to get a superb clutch without the expense of the full beltdrive kit. GEARBOX ![]() This is the gearbox which is fitted as standard to the new 5 speed Bullets. HC have converted this gearbox to a right foot gear change and have modified the internals to give the conventional 1 up 4 down gear change. HC have been testing this gearbox throughout 2003 and putting it through its paces on the road and track. With its completely new design, it has performed superbly. It has vastly improved rideability and performance over the old 4 speed models. It comes complete with new style clutch centre, clutch cable, gear and kickstart lever etc. ELECTRICALS HIGH OUTPUT ALTERNATOR ![]() This is a GENUINE LUCAS alternator gives out up to 120 watts, far in excess of the standard unit. It is suitable for running higher wattage or halogen bulbs. POWERBOX ![]() This unit replaces the unreliable regulator/rectifier and allows the bike to be run with or without a battery. ELECTRONIC IGNITION KIT - RE WEBSITE ( ADD ON KITS) ![]() ELECTRIC STARTER ![]() The above electric starter is now avaliable with RE dealers..coz it's now a standaerd fitting to the new 500 cc bullet. DISK BRAKES - RE WEBSITE ADD ONS[u]</u> ![]() phew !!! finally the mods list is over. there are many more but i have mnentioned only those which are feasible in india. all the pictures and parts are from HCM website and RE website. except for the 5 speed gearbox and a few minor mods.. most of them are indian made (even the piston), so it will not be impossible to find these parts in india. the above mods gel with the bike perfectly. after consultin credible sources from HCM and RE yahoo group, u can expect a TOP SPEED : 85-90 mph ( 137-145 kmph) and mileage of 20-25 kmpl. Tuning a BULLET : source :- http://www.royalenfield-mc.co.uk/ Basic set up. Before you start throwing money and time at your Enfield to make it go faster, do a proper service and get the basic bike running as well as possible. See the technical page for advice . Breathing. The standard Bullet comes with a fairly restrictive air intake and exhaust system, and many people change these. The following set ups seem to work well, and will give a noticeable increase in performance at the middle and top end of the rev range. If you do any of this, always check the plug colour and ensure the mixture is correct. If the plug is ever white and flaky you are running way too lean and must stop using the bike until you have cured it. 350cc Bullet. More open exhaust such as one of the many louder aftermarket items with a K&N type bolt on air filter and a 100 main jet 500cc Bullet. More open exhaust such as one of the many louder aftermarket items with a K&N type bolt on air filter and a 120 main jet Standard jet sizes are 90 for the 350, and 100 for the 500 Electra X. This is the all alloy engine on the export only 500 lean burn. It comes with a CV carb which is OK, there seems little point in trying to rejet this carb, people have tried but it doesn't offer much tuning potential. So if you wish to tune the Electra X budget for a whole new Dellorto 32mm carb to go with your open exhaust and K&N type filter. Rockers/valve gear. Standard Bullets have heavy rockers. Changing them will not make the bike any faster but it will take a good deal of load off the cams and cam followers, so they are a good idea even on a standard engine. If you are getting into serious tuning and want higher revs, use the lighter rockers rather than stronger valve springs. There are some relatively inexpensive light rocker blocks made in India by a company called Samrat. The Samrat set comes with little seals to aid oiling, so make sure you fit them with the rockers. Oil Pumps. The Standard floating big end bearing requires lots and lots of oil to keep it happy. If you are using your bike hard or tuning it, don't over look the oil supply. There is a really good British pump upgrade that delivers about 50% more oil. You must change both the feed and return at the same time and you must lap the new pump in. The parts are cheap, but the lapping in takes forever. There is also a lovely bit of cork or rubber on the main feed to the bottom end. The rubber can wear out and the cork can fall apart. The first you will know about this is when the big end locks up. If you are doing the pump, get one of the new rubber bonded seals and fit this just to be on the safe side. Electra X. This is the all alloy engine on the export only 500 lean burn, not to be confused with the domestic market 350 Electra. Most if not all of the problems have been sorted on this, the big end is roller bearing, not floating and the standard pump delivers plenty of oil Ignition. Points are good, easy to adjust, easy to understand, easy to fix. There are a few fully electronic ignition systems made in the UK just for Enfields, but a quick read of the various chat rooms shows opinion is divided as to whether they are actually worth fitting. I have fitted a points fired electronic ignition and can strongly recommend it. This system uses the original points to carry a very small current and act as a switch for the unit. The little black box does the rest and carries all that high current load that normally goes through the points that cause burning and wear. As long as the points cam is oiled regularly, the original points gap and timing should hardly ever need touching again. This will not make your bike faster, but it will speed up servicing. Gearing. Once your bike has been serviced and is breathing properly, you may notice that it's a bit revy. In India there is a distinct lack of long straight smooth roads, so the Enfield tends to be geared for back lanes and rutted tracks. You might think that is what we have here in the UK, especially if you have been anywhere near central London. Assuming you are lucky enough not to live in London, you could try one tooth larger on the front sprocket. Changing it is a real pain as you have to take the clutch off first. Still, gives you a chance to check everything is tight, and if your feeling really flush, bung some heavy clutch springs in at the same time. Tuned to the limit. Just let's dream for a minute and pretend we all have loads of money and time. Just how far can you go with tuning a Enfield? Go BIG. Using a forged big bore, high compression piston and a long throw roller bearing crank, gives about 612cc. Protect it. At this point you must fit the high flow oil pump, and only use good Western bearings in the rebuild. Let it breath. Gas flowed head, high lift cams, narrow valves, big 32 mm carb and open exhaust. Transmit the power. The standard clutch will not cope, so get a belt primary drive and up rate the clutch. More gears for flexibility. Nice new 5 speed box needed. (right foot change please, let's keep it real) Make it stop. Get yourself a disc brake conversion - yes I know they look a bit modern, but you will be traveling at modern speeds. Results. Well you're several days labour and about £3000 worse off, but looking on the bright side you do have an Enfield that will easily crack the ton and chuck out the best part of 40hp at the back wheel. To give you a clue as to what that might feel like, a standard 500 Bullet manages about 16 hp at the wheel. Bodywork. You could go and spend another £1500 making it look like a racer, but that would just spoil the whole thing. Much better to just leave the looks standard and surprise modern cars with how quickly you can disappear at the lights! |

all the parts mentioned above except the 5 speed RS gearbox are made in india and then exported to UK.. so obviously they are manufactured somewhere in india, most probably chennai. the mods can be done by any RE trained mechanics or any experienced Bullet mech.. coz all these involves just replacing the old parts with better and new ones.
