Default ZMA Post Delivery Experience

Hi Everybody,

Been a long time with out a bike after selling away my first love - the P180.

I'm a ZMA owner now. Its a red one. Purchased it at Sai Motors - Bangalore.

Ripped it right away (of course left it to idle for a few minutes until the engine warmed up). Did the motoman thing (hard accleration and immidiate deceleration - on different gears... mostly on 2nd, 3rd and 4th)

Also, there were welcome showers while travelling the 50 Km back home.

In the excitement while taking delivery, i did not purchase the HH oil that i had to use after ripping for approx 30 Km. So, the bike has clocked 50 and i have to go fetch oil .... replace the engine oil and get going.

There is a distinct change in the engine sound now. That is actually scaring me. I had listened to the engine sound before taking delivery, but after running it for 50 Km, the engine while idling sounds very harsh.

The front disk pads were rubbing (very mildly - but noticeable sound) against the disk without applying the brakes..... the guy said... new bike... hota hai. After a thousand Km.... it should disappear. But after the rain, i hear a screetching sound... a periodic one as i push the bike from stand still.

So, thats the status right now people. I've taken the risk of going against the general notion of a decent run in.... dont know whether i will reap benifits or end up paying a price for my decision

I still dont have the manual (since it was out of stock at the showroom). So, the ZMA uses a 10 W 30 oil if i am right?

Ma new bike

Topic Approved.

You have a brave heart, I must say. Paying your hard earned money on a "premium" machine and then ripping her guts out from Day-1 (even before the run-in is complete), to go against the "orthodox" run-in procedure (and follow the motoman or whoever man that is), sure takes guts my 'brave' friend!

All the best.

Bravo! Do not worry, nothing will happen to engine. Karizma's engine can tolerate the ripping. Just change the engine oil and give some rest to the bike a few hours. It will be fine. If water goes into the disk pads the screeching noise will come and it is common. It would go away as soon as it dries.

Give us updates regardin the performance. I will be watching this thread closely.

BTW, congratulations for the new Karizma. Welcome home.

The flower on the bike gives the bike a funny (feminine) look. Hope you got it.

no_nonsense, you have to use only ordinary mineral oil. Do not use any synthetics. Just use HH 10w30 engine oil.

Congrats dude on yoor new bike!!..As regards to the ripping part, you need not worry the engines are not all that weak that a 50km rip would harm them, i suggest that you continue the normal run-in procedure here on.
The engine sound may be pure pyschological fear, as you went against the normal procedure, just relax!!

Have fun and ride safe

Holy ! You ripped it before run-in ?? That sure takes a lot more than just guts man.

I was just looking for reasons to give up my P150 '06 (done 29000kms) and go in for the Karizma. But, several factors holding me.. Arrrgh! Somebody stop me..

Thanks for the encouragement guys

I still have not found time to get to the nearest HH showroom which is approx 25 Km away from my house. Desperately need that oil so that i can start using my ZMA again.

Also, trying to mentally prepare to remove the rear tyre and put it back after proper brake centering. I just cannot start her up, n do ma moto man thing when i know there is a slight wobble. Wrong brake centering might also wear out the sprokets unevenly.

These two things and then she is good to zoom.

If anybody happen to read 'rearsets' blog... very informative and puts it in the simplest way possible - 'do not use premium oil while run in'. That is why i am religiously searching for a can of HH oil like ravi has also suggested.

Rossi, i will have to go through my dairy searching for the day i felt most sorry for having to let go of my first love How ever, FYI, i sold it for 40K. It was a P180 UG2 (black one with the normal loveable analog meters).

The 83K spent, and then the gutsy move with the moto man thing..... hope it remains a gutsy move and does not become a stupid one time will tell.

The only risky issue all through was not buying oil in advance, and posting it on the forum

That said, cheers and best wishes!
