Default Pulsar 180 - 70 kmpl under Std Test Conditions!

Pulse-quickening
Text Business Standard Motoring Desk

When Bajaj revamped the Pulsar 180 and 150, we wondered whether the addition of a nifty fairing was enough to take on the larger, capable Hero Honda Karizma. But there was more than what met the eye. Major changes are a twin-spark ignition system and a longer swingarm. The twin-spark ignition allows the Pulsars to burn fuel more efficiently and quickly – as a result, the engines rev quicker and manage even higher fuel economy. Bajaj says the 150 should manage 84 kpl while the 180 will return 70+ kpl under standard test conditions! No, that does not mean a power loss. We rode the bikes, and indeed the two are even better than before. The 180 now makes 16 bhp, while the 150 makes 13. The extended wheelbase gives the sharp Pulsar a much-needed dash of stability and we're talking about two machines that handle extremely well. Once more, Bajaj surprised us by saying that the price jump should be in the region of Rs 2,000 only. And did we mention that the 180 has a claimed top speed of 130 kph while the 150 will manage 120?

Gr8 going Bajaj!!
Keep it up.

Some other engines that have digitally mapped twin spark plug ignition systems in India:

Merc : E and S Class
&
Honda VTEC (Only proposed - not yet introduced)

Thus there are only two companies that have twin spark plug ignition systems - The Merc and Bajaj, and only one truly indian company to hav the technology - Bajaj.

Others please wake up - or ur engines'll soon become vintage..

Except for that fancy fairing, this pulsar is a winner all the way, as long as the reviews are honest. Looks like the Pulsar is going to be the next success after the HH splendor. lol

After tilting a bit towards the Karizma, and even thinking of buying one, I am back in full swing as a hardcore Pulsar fan! I have decided to stick to my 180 and only give her up for the Pulsar 250! Read the Pulsar DTSi vs Karizma forum for 3 days in a row, but I didn't put in a reply, cos the excuses made by Karizma owners sounded lame at times! High speed handling seems to be the only excuse they have right now for spending 25000/- more! Anyways, not to start another fight here, I better stop. I see Karizma guys coming after me.... MAX.

Good going bajaj, after all we do need someone to come up with new technologies. Else, how r we going to compete with the likes of Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha when they invade us in 2004 ?

actually they have done some serious thinking here, but u'll have to throw the headlight fairing and put the round lamp.otherwise,i feel if ur not powerhungry this is it..if ur there is no bike currently for it,maybe the avl 500...
