They would not do that I think as this is a single cylinder 5 geared 250cc MotoCross OffRoad Bike.

If they do bring a YZF-250R it will be a dual cylinder setup with 6 gears. Don't you think so?

EDIT: Unlike the R15, the 250 would be a bike to counter the global Ninja 250. That would be mean horsepower would be anywhere between 30-33 (beginner level motorcycle hp limit in most countries).
But then since it is a global bike, it would mean more after market parts and tuning options! Already dreaming!

I agree. That WRX won't be much use for an R-Series. We know R15 engine came from long stroking the R125's cylinder ...

How about using the same R125 engine, with attaching 2 similar cylinders in inline setup directly? Remember that 700cc enfield from 2 RE 350's?

Since R125 gives some 15 bhp, the 250 may be tuned to give some 30 bhp @ higher revs, on some crankshaft change, etc ... Crankshaft change would be necessary anyways, as this time it's 2 cylinders.

What do you say guys?

To make it an economic feasibility you need numbers. You cannot sit on your haunches and just bring out a bike speculating people have deep pockets. We were clamouring for Superbikes. The R1 came here 18 months ago. How many R1s sold? Less than 200. In a population of 1.3Billion!!!

I was part of a survey with Bajaj some months ago when they were seriously thinking of bigger bikes. The estimate that the survey had come out with for a 250 twin mill at INR 2.5L was less than 4000 buyers in a calendar year. And that is an optimistic figure. Do you think that that makes economic sense to set up shop here? There is NO huge demand. There is "some" demand currently. And this will gradually grow as people will become progressively less conservative.

You mean go back to the drawing board? Just for India? Not happening!

Ken, AFAIK, the Yam 250R has been in talks since a long time in international forums. I don't think Yam has confirmed themselves. But looking at the growing number of Ninjette sales every year, it would be good for Yamaha if they take out a faired 250. And if they do, it will be a global bike. Like the Ninjette. It will not be only for India, IMHO.

And hence, an all new bike.

^ Yamaha is all set to release the Fazer 250 as the YBR 250 in the UK market - BHP - More is never enough!

I wouldnt mind owning one of these. If not these, then why not take the 225cc engine from the Scorpio 225 and put it in the FZ frame with some tweaks? - - > Group Bhp - INDIA: Yamaha Scorpio 225 : The bike they should get to India

Precisely, more speculation elsewhere as well.

That is precisely what I talked about here: http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/201378-post966.html I would not really go for this 21 Bhp thing. And if Yam goes for this step, it will be pretty unforgiving.

^^ It would be a beast. 21 Bhp FZ25. There is no doubt it. I don't care about the their sales numbers, it will definitely be a bike to look out for.
