How much drop in signal reception due to the bag?

I notice that my GPS works when in car but when I am on bike if I put the phone in belt pouch or pocket I don't get signal - in the same route.

Was thinking of some GPS antenna like
DealExtreme: $2.99 15CM MCX DVB-T 470~860-Channel Digital TV Antenna
or
DealExtreme: $5.98 GPS External Digital Antenna with MMCX Connector and 3-Meter Cable (1.5Ghz)

The antenna's are not expensive. But then, unless there is proper space to mount the device and the antenna, there's no point buying stuff. So, first gotta make some arrangement like you did

Thumbs up

No signal drop or very minor drop (unnoticable). I dont think any signal drop in this bag. It work fine on bike. It may take 1-2 mins more to lock with it first sattelite but after that it works fine.

really great job,
I also want this for my P220F, but i want to place my mobile instead of GPS device as my mobile carries in-built GPS,
and p220F had enough space over the speedometer, thus the only thing remain is continuously charge supply to the device and i get enough idea for how to do that.
thank you to this DIY thread and to Snow.

Is it good idea to stare tiny screen of GPS while riding your bike??
I use Nokia E71 and it has in-built GPS with corner to corner voice guidance. Plus you guys can download your own voice for routes.

Default GPS Device Holder

I saw in a Yezdi, somebody had fixed a GPS holder (The one which is available for Car) a little more fabricated and that has been bolted on the handle bar(the centre bar), that would be more convenient, just to remove it off when not in use, maybe dust would be a problem and if we have to use a pouch its going to generate lot of heat.

I have fixed a cigar light charger inside the tool box and brought the wire to the front part, have kept the gps inside the waist pouch, only when required I would be taking it out to check the route, else manage with the signboards available. (Only within city limits that helps)

Good one! It reminds me of the old days when i stuck 6 small cellphone speaker magnets on the case of my Nokia 5800 with the help of feviquick .. it worked perfectly fine and could stick it wherever i wanted.. like tank or the handlebar(with flat center rod) on my Yamaha rxz.. paired with my Motorokr bluetooth headset fixed safely inside my helmet..
Though i did not have the charging option on it.. Thanx..

Dear Nahush, appreciate your concern but I would have liked it more if you would have done some R& D before posting your query with all these dots in between.

These days a bike fitted with a self starter comes with atleast a 5amp battery. Most of the devices that work on the power source from a car are not more than 1amp in rating ( I am not mentioning the Electric Air Pump, The vacuum Cleaners types)

Further more, I believe that the charging system in most of the bikes is potent enough to keep the battery charged to its requirement, given for the fact that the electrolyte level is as prescribed.

Hence forth, the battery charge and Battery life should be the last thing to worry about when using electronic gadgets like this.

Try this yourself and mark my words, you would not look back.

all cheers
