this is little scary. if only it can be made of aluminum pipe like the rvm pole. the bolt can get impaled in case of a crash... hope u can use a old rvm pole and weld your second small nut on it.

First attempt: velcro strips on the tank/helmet and camera, unfortunately it failed because my camera is too heavy (2006 model bulky sansui handycam), the cam slipped on bumpy roads and sometimes at high speeds. ( Result: damaged screen , but thank GOD the camera is still working and able to capture stuff)

Second attempt: tried to mount the small tripod on the tank, again was too shaky.

And some more unsuccessful attempts in the last 3 days (yes, this is what I did this festive season), prepared a successful camera mount.

Things required and cost:
Two bolts : Rs.15
Welding: Rs.5.
Camera, batteries.

A big bolt (whatever the size of your rvm socket is), a digicam, and one small bolt which fits into the camera (tripod socket). (pic 1)

Welded the two bolts head to head, as shown in pic 2.

Fitted the bolt in the cam (pic 5 and 6) and then the whole setup in the RVM slot on the handle (pic 7, 8, 9).

The whole setup can be removed and installed anytime. It can also be adjusted while riding to capture sideview or any other angle.

Here's the test video...

Any feedback or suggestions??? Thanks.
Hi Sumit,
What a thoughtful idea. Nice one. Thanks so much for this idea. Btw, The cam is always vibrating ryt? So will it cause any damage to the threads of tripod socket?
I saw some hidden cam listed in ebay. It's like a pen. I thought I can put it in my shirt's pocket while riding and it will work as a bike cam. But not sure about the quality and all. so hesitating to order.

The pen cam shoots VGA quality videos (640x480 resolution) and the video quality is not good, I have seen the demo. It costs around Rs. 1800- 2300, not worth. My camera is 5MP .

It's indeed a good DIY...Thanks to you man...

After seeing dis DIY.... I made one for my R15 and was testing it from last two days...

1. There were lots of Vibration...
2. Weird angles..

Changes Made:

1. Used 2 nuts on both the bolts() and
2. Used old tyres rubber tube for making washers (P.S. : U can use Rubber Washers) for reducing the Vibrations.

and it really works...

Details:
Two bolts and Four Nuts : Rs.12
Welding: Free .
Rubber Washers : Old Tyre rubber tubes(jugad)
Camera : Sony Cybershot W-120.

Had gone for da ride to lonavala today wid fellow xbhpians.. Clicked lot of Pics and Videos( of cornering and straight road)... But Unfortunately lost everything(due to memcard problem)...So couldn't upload da pics and da videos....

Thanks man... even I observed the vibration, so I used erasers (pencil rubber ) to make the washers. The best thing is that most of the cameras have the same size of tripod socket, so you can mount any camera. Tried n tested .

P.S: Due to vibrations and bumps, the battery lid may open and might lose batteries n ongoing recordings (experienced it ), hence wrap a clear tape or any other tape around the battery lid.

If you have seen my videos shot from the cam, they are pretty decent with less vibrations. I used the cam in my Kanyakumari tour as well, the videos as also good. Please read all the comments in this log and try all the modifications/suggestions/improvements done by other riders. Some or the other way, the issue will be resolved. Most important thing, set the cam in "auto-focus" mode and record.

Enjoy.
