Default Handlebar camera mount

Hi friends,

I was trying to mount a camera on my bike, after many experiments, finally I have done it.

First attempt: velcro strips on the tank/helmet and camera, unfortunately it failed because my camera is too heavy (2006 model bulky sansui handycam), the cam slipped on bumpy roads and sometimes at high speeds. ( Result: damaged screen , but thank GOD the camera is still working and able to capture stuff)

Second attempt: tried to mount the small tripod on the tank, again was too shaky.

And some more unsuccessful attempts in the last 3 days (yes, this is what I did this festive season), prepared a successful camera mount.

Things required and cost:
Two bolts : Rs.15
Welding: Rs.5.
Camera, batteries.

A big bolt (whatever the size of your rvm socket is), a digicam, and one small bolt which fits into the camera (tripod socket). (pic 1)

Welded the two bolts head to head, as shown in pic 2.

Fitted the bolt in the cam (pic 5 and 6) and then the whole setup in the RVM slot on the handle (pic 7, 8, 9).

The whole setup can be removed and installed anytime. It can also be adjusted while riding to capture sideview or any other angle.

Here's the test video...

Any feedback or suggestions??? Thanks.

Default query

Good attempt.
One query : will it be able to absorb shocks on bumpy roads ? I feel it can damage the tripod socket .
What are your observations ?

Throw in a ball and socket pivot somewhere and this can operate in weird angles as well!

PS: try this set up on a RTR

Sid, yamaha fazer and ZMR both have RVMs on the fairing... so no issues at all.

I have tried it on bumpy roads as well just to check if it makes any difference to the cam or the mount, but thankfully...nothing happened as such.

He probably mean't the tripod socket on the camera. Over the period the threading of the socket may wear off. One can find that out only after many trials and tests. But this is one brilliant idea. Hats off mate!

It would be hard to find a small bush (waaysar in hindi?) to actually fit in the tripod socket but if that can be done then this is almost a fool-proof DIY.

Nice one Sumit. Try reducing the length of the bolt, it will help in reducing the vibrations.
I tried one with the PVC T Joint. Posted the link somewhere in the other thread for mounts.
PVC T Joint Camera Mount
I still have the unfinished setup, let me know if anybody needs it.
Since, now I settled for RAM mounts, cheap & sturdy.
