Yamaha RX 100

Hi Guys,

I recently bought a Yamaha rx 100. I am the 3rd owner.
The bike has been fully done up. But i have been experiencing some problems.
The average of the bike is approx 30-35 kms. Sometimes i feel that the cluth is dragging while pick-up. And the max speed i have touched on my bike 100. My regular mechanic is from mulund (colony) by the name of Swami.
Could u guys help me out as to what all do i need to check and do to get my bike smoother and faster. I hv heard abt the rdd cdi kit, jus wanted to know, wht difference it will make if i change from cdi to rdd cdi.
Recently i hv been to lonavla with my yami and i drove at a speed of 60-70 fearing that the bike might overheat or might hv ne problems, but to my shock i had a nice ride. The only thing rx-100 lacks is a 5th gear. Coz in long rides u have to really push the throttle and bike feels like its dragging.
I am planning to fit disc brakes in the front wheel.
Also is there any suggestion to increase fuel efficiency.
I am even adding 2T oil when i put fuel + the 2T oil which is seperate.
Also i want speedometers of rd350, ne suggestions where i can get them.
and ne suggestions for long rides (maintenance & riding)

disconnect the oil pumps supply and start adding the oil manually to the tank cuz the RX100's oil pumps are prone to going kaput every now and then...
that manually adding will make the "safeness" secure....

Ps. that'll also prevent the tank from rusting too.....

You can try using Gulf 2T racing semi synthetic oil. I'm using for my RX 135. I feel the smoothness and pick up performance is bettered. Gulf is pocket friendly if Motul stares at you with big price tag.

For engine oil, would suggest Shell / Petronas semi synth. It is very good.

Always try not to jump to the top speed. Rather take it step by step, your engine will not cry also helps in long life.

Once in 6 months you might want to try to sand blast the silencer for better performance.

Check for engine oil level periodically.

generally, you will have less issues of engine cooling on the highway because you are cruising at a steady speed and the engine gets enough air passing around it to keep it happy. its the city start-stop traffic which can be potentially bothersome.
under any circumstance, the rx has a large fin area compared to the engine size, so overheating is never an issue unless something is botched up.

you are touching 100 and getting 35kpl, be happy with it.
performance can be improved... and not necessarily at the expense of fuel consumption and engine life. but its a not-so-vicious circle. once you start down the path, you always want more power.

disk brake in the front is the best thing you can do to the bike.
then you can go for a better filter + jets.
then you can go for a better cdi
then you can go for some mild porting
then you can go for basic chambers
then you can go for higher compression heads
then you can go for a better carb
then you can go for rearsets
then you can go for clipons
then you can go for a 5 speed conversion
then you can go for a 135 5 speed barrel and crank
then you can go for a really high rpm setup on those barrels
then you can go for a better chamber to go with that
then you can go for better sprocketing
then you can go for weight reduction
then you can go for a big bore
then you can go for chambers to go with that
then you can go for better suspension and running gear
then you can go for a fairing
then i can say "see what i mean?"

LOL...

i may have certainly omited many things here.

the point is that you have to decide where to stop.
personally, i would go the whole way and end up with a fantastic track bike.

Dude for the Front disk better go for a complete pulsar or gladiator fork assembly n disk setup..m usin pulsar shocks n disk on ma rx n it works flaulessly n as the others said its better to disconnect the oil pump n add 2T oil manually..

will try the pulsar fork assembly for the disc brakes when i come down to mum around feb. also my mechanic says dat the entire 1 litre engine is too much for the yami, so he removes some oil saying that too much oil can also cause a problem. is that true.

i guess sand blasting clears off all the carbon deposited on the muffler to give the bike a free exhaust..correct me if m wrong guys..!

In Chennai, I get this done in an industrial area. The process of jetting pure sand at high pressure. It is not a domestic way to clean things. In Chennai, the guys does it on huge iron containers and pipes to clear of the iron dust and chemical treatment deposits while making them.

The silencer is then jetted by the hand gun like on to the one end of the opening. This high pressure blasting removes every possible immovable dirt inside the pipe.
After sand blasting you will notice the original color of inner metal show up. The inside surface becomes very rough if you feel it. The muffler and the bend pipe also treated in the same way. The silencer becomes so clean when you fit it back and drive will remind you of the bike's original beat. That would be a music to the ears. Here they charge between Rs. 70-100 depends on the industrial shed in that area.

I had to go that area and went to a mechanic got the silencer removed and took it to the industrial shed near by.

Dont forget to coat the inside of the silencer with oil, before using it. since it might catch rust. Then the oil from the 2t will help coat the inside of the silencer.

Interesting... wish there was some place in Pune that could do this thing. Anyway, thats why its so imp. to use a real good 2t oil. It avoids carbon build up in the 1st place. And the best way to clean it is not to get it dirty in the first place (or at least as less as possible). Thats why a JASO FD oil would be the best thing to use. Also, at least ocasional v fast highway runs will help to keep it clean.

My Shogun has done about 21,000 km. Never been decarbed.
