Hi friends,
I own hero honda hunk.the problem am facing now,is engine heat.engine is getting hotter,if it travels 5-6 km. if i squezze my bike at 6000 rpm, to feel the accelaration & speed,i can smell the engine oil from the engine as it is evaporating(i think so). recently i changed my fork oil as it gave awkward sound while braking,particularly when disc brake applied. changing fork oil makes the sound lesser but not completely stop.
what are the possible reasons(is the engine is getting dull?)

Possible that you may have to get your tappets adjusted.

1. How old is the Bike.
2. When was the last service
3. What oil do you use
4. Have you checked oil level
5. Are the cooling fins clean
6. Are there any obstructions to the airflow (fairing/ the rain stopper pad that many riders put).
7. Is your clutch slipping (check esp if bike has rum >15K kms, or lesser if you ride like a maniac)...
8. What gear is the heating in...could be possible if you are pulling wrong speeds in the wrong gear.
9. Tappet adjustment (an indicator is rough sounding engine).
10. Try decarbonising the engine. sometime varnish formation on the piston/cylinder head will also lead to inefficient burning. Decabonising and flush can help.
11. Do you idle the engine when you start it, (wait till rpm reaches/crosses 1300 atleast.).

Check for play in your forks. Also park bike on main stand on a flat surface. Ask someone to sit and puh bike backward (liftng the front wheel in air). check if the wheel is turning true. Then press down on the bike front and release observing if any fork is tracking (one coming back earlier than the other). It could also be a problem with the springs. Aor if the fork is offset which means the inner will be rubbing against the outer and creating some noise. One thing (happened to a friend) was that there was some grit which had got into the fork (seal was damaged and ignored.) this had scratched up the metal. Check....

Had the same exact problem with my ZMA.
The whole clutch kit went Kaput.
got everything changed for almost 4k.
Will be going there this evening to pick it up.

I haven't put wrong gear in wrong speed. i don't know know which are the cooling fins.the clutch is smooth.but 6 months back i changed my gear pinnions(4),is it necessary to adjust the tappets after rebuilding the engine.now the engine sound is getting rough.is it due to tappet adjustment? and i am not getting same performance and smoothness as it was.the gear shifting is getting harder shifting 1st to 2nd.
when i pulled the disc brake while pushing the front down i can hear a knocking sound coming from top as it gets hit with upper side.
how to decarbonising? is it about cleaning the spark plug?

i have reduced the rev.my idle rev is 1.is it right?and have no problem with this.bike starts smoothly in the morning,without squeezing the throttle.

Your springs seem to have gone, get it checked, simple to do fin another hunk and press down, see how easy/difficult it is, what s the travel. then compare wih your bike

No. It is done at the service center. Ask them

I am assuming you got the rebuild done at the ASC. Possibly the gear gap setting is not done properly, check with them. Be stern. Tell them you did the rebuild and I have problem. thoda awaaz badhao kaam ho jayega

NOTE: Check your clutch plates, It could also be a problem...

Please set it to 1300 rpm. You are putting strain on the engine ...
seriously, keep it at 1300. And yes, always i mean always warm up your engine if it is off for more than 1 hour (lesser in cold areas). dont warm up by using the throttle. let bike idle for 30 seconds (i keep it for 45-60 seconds). This gives time for the oil to start flowing through the engine/gb and bike feels a lot smoother to ride. My thumb rule is, till the RPM does not reach idle (mine is 1400) by itself (no choke/throttle) i dont shift into first. I generally start the bike then spend some time wiping the tank, and stuff. Try this...

Thanks a lot buddy, for your valuable suggestions.
I have showed my bike to a mechanic but they told me the tappet is perfectly adjusted,if i tighten the tappet the engine might get stall.
but i don't trust the hh svc mechanics,bcoz of them i had to change my pinnions.
6 months back often my bike gear getting slipped,and i didn't give any importance on it as i thought it might be related to hh default problem of gear box as i know that pulsar 180 gears got slipped often.but one day shifting 1st to 2nd gear my rear wheel get completely locked & trying after 10 minutes it was free.the very next day i took the bike to hh svc & told them abt the prob.what did they do i dunno know but when after finishng the job he took me to take a demo ride,& suddenly the rear wheel locked again.he told me that it happens bcoz the gear lever is attached with bottom & he adjust the lever.Thats it... he didn't open the clutch & gear pinnions to check it. he told me it wasn't any issue of clutch & gear.
after 3 days i was riding,suddenly the rear wheel got locked again.the condition was so severe that i couldn't able to free it up.I could have been severely injured if was in high speed,but got some scratches as i was in low speed.i have managed to call a local mechanic & told me got to open the engine...
after opening the engine the result was 4 pinion's multiple tooth are broken.
i went to hh svc,told the incident & claimed the warranty.they told me the rider shift down the gear in high speed & resulting pinnions broken.I have written a letter to HH head office.but no response.
the hh svc is purely fake..... they didn't checked up any bike.just drain(en.. oil),wash & polish...the servicing done...

There are two...the good and the bad...
the bad first!
From the symptoms that you have mentioned, it seems that what you were experiencing when your wheel used to get locked was gear tooth damage. Probably some part of the GB broke. (even a small tooth) and circulated within the gearbox for some time. Gradually this damaged the gearbox as a whole.
I have seen this happen in the past as well. There is a solution to your problem though. You mentioned that you replaced the pinions. GOOD. whilst this replacement was happening did you check the other parts. Possibly the service center guy didnt check this.
Not all is lost. First please find a reliable mechanic in your city (where are you located?).
Ask him to reassemble the engine. However, you will be there when he does that. Please remove atleast 4 hours of time for this. You will need the right grade of GearOil and engine oil. (cost 500 or so)...
When he opens the gearbox check each metal part including the housing for damage (scratches and stuff). Any scratches indicate that my theory was right!. Check all the gears and also the linkages.
Also check your clutch plates. replace if necessary.
Check your chain sprockets.

now the good...
park your bike on the main stand. Put the bike in neutral. rotate the rear wheel backwards. Listen for any ratcheting noise. Check if wheel rotates freely.
Then rotate the wheel normally, check for ratcheting and play.
Now remove the chain cover observation hole rubber. Ask someone to rotate the wheel slowly. Mark the chain with something you can visibly see (chalk is a good option, but be careful not to use too much). Keep your finger on the chain 9(wrap a couple of band-aids to avoid injury). Ask someone to rotate the wheel slowly. Feel for kinks in the chain. At any point if you feel that the chain suddenly locks somewhat, or tends to drag a little, it means that there is something not right with the transmission. The chain is slipping. This indicates one of three things - Sprocket damage (drivewheel/wheel) or chain not set properly (offset from normal by certain degree, check for alignment - good mechanic).
Rear wheel bearing damage or in early stages of damage.
Clutch clearance not properly set.
If this is the case, and I actually think this is, because, it seems to me that the setting of the gears was not done properly. You will not have more problems.
Also remember to check this before you actually go to the mechanic or he can easily make a fool out of you.

Best thing I can say is - change the service station and get complete diagnosis. If not authorized service center, doesn't matter, find out the best mechanic in your town.

Regarding engine oil - Use the recommended grade oil. AFAIK its 20w40 for Hunk so you can use any of xW40 oil like 5W40, 10W40 or 20W40. Don't mess with higher temperature viscosity.

How many kms have you done after the last oil change ? As you are using mineral oil, do change it between 1500-2000kms. Don't run more.

What is your current odo reading i.e total number of kms clocked by your bike ?

If you are riding in heavy traffic conditions then yes you will feel the heat on to your legs but that is not an issue to be worried of. Engines are well tested for all types of environment.
