Default Low mileage

Hii friends.
I own a 6month old unicorn, done 3500km. The problem i face now is that the mileage dropped drastically after the 3rd service. I used to get 48-53kmpl in city riding conditions before. After 3rd service the mileage dropped to around 39-41kmpl. So last week, I gave my bike to the Honda Service Centre for mileage check and tuning.
Initially they checked the mileage and it was around 43kmpl. So they have done some tuning and checked everything and they got mileage of 51kmpl after that.
And they told the mileage will still improve if u change the clutch plates. I was like .. I told them that it is a new bike, done only 3500kms and i am not new to bikes and i dont have the habit of riding with clutch depressed. i rode splendour for the past 5yrs done 50k kms and changed the clutch plate only once. But they have nothing to say. They say the mileage might increase if you replace the clutch plates. It seems they arent even sure about that.
So i got my bike back and mileage hasnt improved..
Can we check ourselves about the clutch plate wear?
What are the other symptoms of clutch plate wear?
Can this happen if the clutch cable was tight or for any other reason ?
Pls help me out
4th Service is due on 4th january.

if u really wanna throw the book at em. Tell em to bring out the service manual of the unicorn, and check what is the service wear limit of the clutch plates, and warpage limit also.

Measure the same of your clutch plates using a vernier, and the warpage using a feeler gauge. That should answer their query that youve been dragging the clutch or something.

Also a physical indication of clutch wearing out, is when you are riding maybe with a pillion, the engine revs increase, but the bike does not catch speed that quickly, as if the engine is slipping on the clutch. Thats an indication as to the clutch being worn out.

Also get the carburettor cleaned, tuned and adjusted properly. Check tyre pressure, and also make sure the condition of the air filter is clean, and that the gap on the spark plug is within specifications. Also the plug should be clean.

Thanx jd for the help.
Yes i felt that the pick up with pillion is low these days. I will check the tyre pressure tomorrow(did that before 2weeks) and still if the pick up doesnt improve it is the clutch plates right?
But the rpm levels are same as before. (eg: it is 50kmph in 5th gear at 4000rpm for unicorn. It is same as before).
If it is the clutch plate worn out, do i need to measure the wear and warpage? Can u pls tell something more on wear limit and warpage limit?
i will ask them to clean and tune the carburettor and also the air filter during next service.

watever u do clutch plates, wont wear so fast in a unicorn...the problem might be something other than that...considering 42-45kpl is good mileage on a unicorn..

my bike ran out of fuel when it did just 51kms in reserve. ie on 1.3L petrol. so fuel effeciency is just 39-40kmpl, which is more than 10-12kms lower under same riding conditions..

u wont believe ,,if i said that my shine gave me 39kmpl whn i did a 600 km trip. new bike(after 1500km done,,,2 service done),,wen i Complained during the 3rd svc Honda guys wer clueless….
we only have to go to them coz of the warranty n free svc,
my bike is still the same ...gears slip a lot,,low mileage n pickup is low now,

i think u should Consult a good mechanic u know well …n then ask the svc guys to check the same, also consider what jd666 suggested

Did you find out what was the actual problem?
Or you might have did a higher speed during the trip. Shine should return 55+kmpl when rode sensibly.

try changing the air filter this service..
hope it helps
otherwise i can't think of a reason for low mileage in a new machine
check the air screw in the carb, should be open 5 half turns
u can see it looking at the carb from the left side of the bike
it lies along your sight inside
