I had a sad experience from my Pulsar, for the past 2 days I can smell the presence of pertol when I was about to take the bike from parking but I neglected, thinking that, some dust or anything got clogged in the carb or so and hence the smell. I had that experience too, once I made a tank ful of purchase and parked in front of a mall and left, when I came back, I saw the colour of the floor was changed and I found that the petrol was flowing continously thru the pipe under the carb.
Half of the tank was gracfully emptied by the syphon mode
Even Pulsar had another trend of overflowing when the bike is parked on a low position or tilted to side ways to a particular angle.Ok coming back to the point, last week I saw some blistering on the tank and my mech made some scrubbing and put some Zinc Chrome Yellow primer coat and told me there r some rust on the tank, next service need to paint the rusty areas. But yesterday I had a front tyre puncture and the puncture wala told me that petrol is leaking, and he pointed it too. Bottom of the tank thru another blistering, its leaking drop by drop.
When closely observed, I could see more on the places last time patch painted areas too. I've'nt made even a single scratch on the tank, thats the way I takes care of it, but my tank is rusting
My mech too smart to overcome this, he took a Mseal mix and pasted everywhere and give my bike back, leaving an advice of its better to get it replaced as its already blisters
costing another 4K or so. I dont mind in spending for that, but what is the remedy for this getting rusted? I had the similar experiences in my old Samurai too. How come tank is getting rusted, when its always fully immerced in petrol, and one more thing, rust is only on the bottom part where the tank sheets are joined together
Does petrol have a rusting agent? Does a anodizing work will help?I expect everyone in this forum come up with your share to tackle this issue as it can happpen any bike, and will adversly affect the paint jobs if we try to gas weld or so. What are the peventive measures to be taken, and how to isolate it from rust if its already there but in an early stage etc..
