Which riding jacket?
Hey Guys am planning to get a riding jacket in a couple of weeks. My budget is around 5k so DSG seems to be the only ones that fit in for now. Wanted a DSG Maze but thats goin above my budget so settling on DSG nero. Any other suggestions/feedback on the above-mentioned models please?Tags: None

How does it work in delhi heat - i understand that neither does a mesh jacket work in that tempOriginally posted by Aryan View PostQuery Approved.
At 5k odd, you can also try and get Cramster series of riding jackets. I personally use the 'Cramster Pulse', and I am totally satisfied by it.
It costs. Rs.5.2k.

did you mentioned there 5.2k!!, for a riding-jacket. Being a middle-classed guy, i cannot afford that-one. Please, tell a cheap one. May be between 1-1.5K Rs. would not put-down my full pocket balance.

Its hard to get an armoured riding jacket here for the price you have mentioned. I have heard about normal jackets with non-ce approved armours in some shops, but those are not reliable and long lasting. Try getting a deal from any closeout stores in US if you got any friends or relatives in US.Originally posted by abhichotu.abhi View PostWhattttttttttttttt???

Riding jackets are quiet expensive. One cannot simply keep multiple jackets for different weather condition. So I would recommend you to get one that can be used in all weather.Originally posted by vinais View PostHey Guys am planning to get a riding jacket in a couple of weeks. Note:
there are different types of jackets.
1. Leather: Not good in hot places. Best protection.
2. Cordura: Not good for hot places. Though some has air pockets for breathing, it wont help much in searing heat. Medium protection
3. Mesh: Good for hot place: Minimum protection.
Though they all come in similar CE approved armour. The skin also plays a big role in protection and hence leather are best.
While considering mesh. Here are some pointers.
Some jackets comes with REMOVABLE inner lining (good for all weather).
The lining can be either water resistant(good against wind and light shower) or water proof (good against wind and rain). There is a difference.
Some jacket's inner lining are NOT REMOVABLE (not good for all weather)
VERY IMPORTANT: Make sure innerlining are removable.
Since I reside in hot place. I got myself a mesh jacket with REMOVABLE inner lining. The innerlining is 100% water proof, meaning they are also wind proof. So I got a jacket that covers hot, wet & cold weather. Mine is slightly more expensive than DSG or Cramster. Though leather provides best protection, it doesn't make sense in my case as I will be unable to wear them due to heat.Last edited by kaynmantis; 02-13-2010, 12:27 PM.

NOTHING works in Delhi summers. Although removing the inner liner does help a little, but it's next to NOTHING really. However, it is REALLY helpful during the winters; works like a charm.Originally posted by gautam View PostHow does it work in delhi heat - i understand that neither does a mesh jacket work in that temp
I also belong to the so called 'middle-class'. I saved up for the jacket and THEN bought it rather than buying it out of the blue. A well armored jacket for Rs.1.5k odd is IMPOSSIBLE to find.Originally posted by abhichotu.abhi View PostWhattttttttttttttt???

i am using cramster pulse here in chennai...the weather is hot n humid...the jacket feels like a oven when you are standing in sun...but on move, its good...as aryan sir said, nothing will work for summers...adjustment is the only way out....and better wait a while for the jackets with CE approved armour rather than going for any odd jacket...

At 1.5k I would susggest you to get a denim jacket el-cheapo types(350-700Rs) and get elbow guards (400-800Rs) (if you can stretch the budget to a bit then get a spine guard as well...Super CommuTOURer - Talk less, Ride more

really ,itsa nice thinking satyen.
its better then a windcheater and a lot better then nothing.
if u cannot afford then go for denim jackets as satyen says, they will provide quite a strong base.then add custom layers of very high density fome paddings in areas like spine, elbow, shoulders, chest.it will be some protection.if u can source Armour only then put them instead.its better to use something then entirely nothing.
my suggestion-save up after this, and get your self a cramster!!sigpic

i got a DSG phoenix for 5.2k... I know expensive but totally worth it.. in the cold u need just a thermal and t shirt beneath and the jacket takes care of the rest...
- Also i would like to add a point to riding in summers with jackets on... Its actually a good idea, because a) it will protect you from the sun ( darkening, sun burn ). B) it will actually keep you cooler... ( provided you are drinking adequate water ).
I have biked in the 40-42Degrees temps that delhi encounters, when pretty much everyone is in t-shirts and some are in ganjis even, wearing a jacket, gloves, bandanna on my face and helmet... How??
When you ride in the heat without any form of layer on between your body and the sun, your sweat simply keeps evaporating due to the heat, not cooling your body.
What a jacket does is holds the sweat long enough to cool the body, and then escape as the wind blows over the jacket... But you need to drink adequate water when you are riding in the heat... 2-3 litres is nothing.. you'll easily sweat it out.. Stay hydrated, very important...
I found this method very uncomfortable at first, being all sweaty etc.. but after a few days.. it was actually relieving, because eventually due to the cooling effect, your body temperature is actually cooler than the surrounding atmosphere...
I dunno if it will work for everyone.. but it works for me.. so i wanted to share it..
