Question R15: Clutch Plate Change Queries

My R15 bought in Feb 2010 with 10500 on the odo seems to need a clutch change. I know it hasn't run enough for a normal clutch plate change, but I learnt riding on this bike only; hence the unusual wearing out of the clutch. Response to the throttle has become terrible, so is the shifting and power delivery.

I have a few questions:

My Frame number starts with "ME138B0". I have heard some older lots used to come with 5 spring clutch plates and newer ones come with 4.

-Do I have a 4 or 5 spring plate?
-Can existing 4 be fitted with 5 one and vice versa?
-What do I need to change (clutch plate, pressure plate, spring etc?)
-How much should be the cost?

Thanks

Even I have a similar question, I had to change the clutch plate of my Hunk a week ago. Bought in March 2009 with 10960KMs on the odometer.

Total servicing cost me Rs. 4863

Well I fell with the bike in water logged area twice in 15 mins and the water was above me waist and had to open the engine at service center to get it started but after than the bike had become sluggish, mileage dropped to 30 from 48 and the bike wont pick up like it used to and it wouldnt go above 70kmph

So two months after this engine opening and all I took it to Hero Service Center and they said clutch plate needs to be changed. They said its coz of the bike going in water, is it so?

Even I had learnt riding on this bike and they said something about half clutch driving and clutchless gear shift, it went bouncer to me :P
Can someone shed light on all these things?????

Sorry for hijacking your thread brother but I didnt make a new thread as our question is similar.

Firslty - if bike fell on water does not have any impact on Clutch plates. Most of the time clutch plates needs a change after 15-20K. You can change only clutch plates. pressure plates you need not change.

While opening the clutch case you can check if the clutch plates are burnt (it will be black)

if your bike has 4 plates you can not fit the five plates and vice a versa unless you change the clutch housing.

Hope this helps

-Do I have a 4 or 5 spring plate?

Its a 4 spring plate as mine also is ME13

Why you need it??

-What do I need to change (clutch plate, pressure plate, spring etc?)
Clutch plates at 15k pressure plates normally between 40-50k and depends on your riding conditions like do you shift gears without pressing clutch or have done it, or instead of shifting higher gear for power in same gear you press clutch and accelerate than life will go down.

-How much should be the cost?

2000/- Rs roughly in pune. dont know about labor and other costs.

Hope the info helps you.

I dont think it lasts 50k !!!
Clutch lasts more than 75k kms on cars but not on a bike.
