  • Karizma Top Speed problem

Hai all .. I need some help.
I am using a 2007 April model Karizma (19 k kilometers) for last three months ..i bought it second hand ..
The bike is fully in stock condition (except the 55/60 w Philips extreme power headlight I fitted).
After i got the bike I had to change many parts including clutch plate , clutch plate assembly (full), cam tenser and some other stuffs (and some body parts too including front cowl ).
Now The bike is running smooth and fine and got a max mileage 42 , min 28 and giving me constant 35 avg mileage . I really love the bike and now addicted to it especially the way it cruses on 80 at 5 k RPM .
I am now working in Chennai and I went to Pondicherry , Bangalore and some other Road trips with the bike and it is simply awesome for touring .
But now I am facing a problem the bike is not getting a good top end . I have touched 130 on it but the problem is the bike is showing variable top speed. Most of the times it is not crossing 110 (with pillion)

Can anyone tell me what will be the problem? (or which part of the bike wil be the probably cause) Can any chennai Xbhpians help me to find a good Karizma Mechanic ?

i agree there will be performance degredation as the bike is gettign old
        but

        1. My freinds karizma 2.5 year old stil crossing 120 with ease .
So we cannot say its becuase it has done 19 k .
        2. My bike itself crosses 120 ( it had tocuhed 130 ) sometimes but mostly it is geetign sucked at 110 , so my exact problem is not only less top end but Varibale top speed

so there must be soemthing wrong with my bike and i would like to know what is it . i hope experianced bikers and other ZMa owners here can help me sort this out ..

If it is difficult to figure out what the problem is exactly from the details i gave , Zma owners please reply to the following questions .It will help me to find out my problem

        1. In 5 th gear whats the maximum Rpm attained by your bike?(how old is ur bike?)
        2. Whats the top speed you are getting? and at what RPM?
        3. Does wind affect the top speed? (the thing is that when i travelled in opposit direction of the road i am getting more top speed)

may be it is problem of clutch plates and you need to do decarbonisation it will have huge impact on engine

the 2.5 year old karizma already done more than 25 k .

Regardign clutch plates i already replaced not only my clutch plate but the
            full clutch assembly.

Stil i have to do decarbonisation??

you may opt for decarb, but pls also get checked your speedometer it may also have some problem which was sorted out in mine p150 showing variable speeds at same rpm's.
              pls also check air filter,carboretter

Thank you for your suggestion ..

but my speedo meter is workign fine i cross checked it many times ,
plus at one RPM it will show only one speed whenver my max top speed
changed the Max RPM is also changing ..so it wont be the same case of your speedo meter i hope.

Will Hero Hond service centre guys do this decarbonisation? Is it effective? (sorry for the repeated questions , these terms are entirly new to me )
                How much it will cost?

yes HHSC should do the job. yes it is effective one of mine friend did opt for decarb in his 2005 karizma and got wonder results.
the bike was smoothened alot and started giving decent fuel economy.you would also exp. the difference soon after it.
i donot know about the charge.

i would like to know at what price you got the bike. as another of my friend is going for 2nd hand karizma today we saw a 2008 model for 65000

Then i will also go for it .. Can you ask your friend what is the top speed he is gettign on it??

the last time i ride my friends ZMA on highway i took it to 115kmph
but the bike seemed to have struggled. so not kept it at that speed for long and settled for 90-100kmph it was doing it with joy.
i would say that wind resistance also plays a major role in your bikes topspeed

My friend is also facing the same problem on his 2008 zma. It easily goes till 120 km/h with a pillion, but does not go more than that.

                          Hi there.

Well, I have faced a similar issue recently on my bike too.
In my case the bike was running very rich mixture.

There can be many factors man for variable top speed.
Even the minutest things like how you warmed up the bike in the morning also affects bike's performance that day.
Wind speed and direction can also be a factor.
Somebody very experienced even told that change in weather, also results in change is performance of the bike. (Availability of oxygen in air).

Firstly I think a stock karizma should atleast show a top speed of 125-130 single and crouching. This is just my thought.

Try crouching, look for wind resistance. Get your bike's Air/Fuel mixture checked.

If it does not work out, then let me know and we will look into a different direction then.

                          Good Luck!!

There are certain tips to increase top speed .
1.Increase u bike tyre air pressure to say a 38 to 40 psi instead of original 32and get 30 psi in front instead of original 25.will do wonders but has its on side effects....
2.Get a higher octane petrol. get a 91 or 93 octane .it will definitely boost u r bikes top end performance........
3.take u r air filter out .replace replace it or . trial run without one .no air filter riding is not advised but doing it one or more time will not affect ur engine .Get a good set of free flow exhaust .will deffinetly improve the highend performance.
4.Give u r valve with more opening .will definetly reduce power and efficency at low speed but can improve high end perfomance because it improves volumetric efficency.
5.Get a better set of spark plug(iridium if u can afford) . and make sure u r ignition timing is advancing with speed .I think karizma is having 2 sets of ignition timing.one for low speed and other for higher engine speed. but not sure.If the timing is not advanced according to speed . it will reduce top end power.Check the control switch .Not sure where it is .Bajajs having it in there carburetor
6.And finallly the important thing since top speed is a factor which is closer of aerodynamic efficency rather than power when speed is increasing.Get a lower set of handle bar.crouch down entirely onto the front fairing .while doing higher speed.use only Tight jackets. or not use them .Bcoz loose jackes can cause a large drag.get a tight t shirt and Try.

Valid point. Low handle bars are not advised for Zma.
