  • Battery Help

    Hi,
    I have P150 with me .
I have purchased my bike on 21 Oct 2006.
Since now i have not charged my battery(Exide battery).
Due to the self start problem i went to check for the battery so that i can charge,he said that 1 cell of the battery is gone and he recommended me to put new Exide battery which is costing me at 1250/- (by giving them my old Exide battery)
So i would like to know should i go for the new battery?
Also tell me other batteries apart from Exide and their cost?
Also after how much time should i charge my battery?

Well, I guess 2 yrs is the normal lifetime of an Exide battery. Why don't you go for the P220 maintenance free battery or the Amaron battery with 5yrs warranty this time?
Your biking tells a lot about the person you are!

If one cell of your battery was dead, I don't think you you would be able to use the self starter. I hope the battery dealer isn't pulling a fast one on you.

P 150 uses a 9 Ah battery, right? If yes, you have all options in front of you - Amaron, Base Terminal and Tata Green. Out of these, I'd go for Amaron or Base Terminal. Amaron is the most expensive one and is VRLA, which is an advantage and a disadvantage. Base Terminal is cheaper and good VFM (I have one in my bike). It carries a 50 month (total) warranty.

Whatever you take, don't go for Exide or Amco. They are prone to leak (will ruin your bike) and last have the shortest life.

Always charge your battery & top up the water & check the acid level 2 months once..

Go in for the Amaron Prorider 9 Ah battery, its good, a lil exp (arnd 1400 with exchange) but has a good 30 month replacement and 30 month pro rata exchange. definately worth the money spent.

Bargain and get the Amaron 9Ah battery for 1350/- (I did that last month ).... its complete maintenance free (read NO maintenance needed - sealed)... compared to maintenance needing Exide batteries. And it comes with 30month guarantee + 30month warranty (pro-rata exchange buy back policy).

Don't know what you mean by "Amaron is not for Pulsars". If your bike needs 9 Ah battery, then Amaron does make them. You can also consider BOSCH. Though both are zero maintainence, remember you will have to throw them if you loose water due to possible abnormal operating conditions. Thats why Base Terminal is also a good idea and cheaper. And it does not leak like Exide & Amco.

                      Unicorn 2005

                      Hi

Its been nearly 4 years since with Exide battery. I don't know what ah did the bike came from factory. I think it ought to be 5ah since my Unicorn has self-starter.

So far Exide had not given any major issue however, think its time to change.

If I want to get new one with 7ah/9ah will that be able installed without any space modification? The reason is I wanted to install horns like in Pulsar (dual).

                      Experts suggest me good battery.

                      Comments please..

Amaron 9ah is meant for Pulsar's.

Unicorn Self Start comes with 7ah and non self comes with 2.5ah.
If just putting twin horn is the aim then u can remain with stock 7ah battery. If u want more then anyday u can put a 9ah Amaron.

9 Ah battery's dimension are greater than 7 Ah. It is unlikely that it will fit in the battery cage without modificaiton to the same. Also, higher rated battery may put additional stress on the alternator.
