I use two fingers (index and middle) for bikes with disc brakes
and all four fingers for bikes with drum brakes.
In situations when I need to immediately twist the throttle after braking, I brake with three fingers (middle, ring and little fingers) while my index finger and thumb are still on the throttle.

Usually the index finger, in case of emergency braking, I use the 'middle" finger to load it up.

Always worked for me! Different people different styles!
