20W50 is slightly thicker than 15W50 at room temperature, but at engine operating temperature they should about the same thickness, since that's the second figure. The first figure is for low temperatures.

Hitting the red line once or twice won't kill your engine on the spot. It's continuous abuse that ruins engines. And synth oils are not independent of grade, why else would they have grades listed on the bottle? A P220 needs an xW50 oil, so 20W50 is the recommended grade, but 15W50 will do just fine as well. The numbers are the thickness of the oil at low temperature (first number) and at high temperature (last number). Oil viscosity (thickness) affects film thickness on moving parts, too thin and the metal will scrape over the other part instead of gliding along the layer of oil.
I've been using regular mineral oil from the SVC (20W50 castrol if I saw it right). Going to switch to Motul 15W50 semi synth on the next service (3rd).

I did a mixed run in of sorts. Keep it below 4k rpm most of the time and give it a good blast once in a while up until about 500km. From 500km, keep it under 6k rpm, and touch 7k once in a while. After 1500 all the way to the red line at about 10k rpm. Still even on a machine that's run in properly, red lining can quickly kill your engine if you stay there too long. The problem is that there's a lot of stress being put on a lot of the components when it's going that fast. Better engine oil helps if you intend to rip a lot. Semi synth would be the minimum, full synth oil would be better.

keep the RPM below 4000 till 500kms, get ur first service done at that , then keep the RPM below 5000RPM, dont let the engine strain (knock, constent particular RPM) and you'll do just fine.
