Very informative thread this one is.

Would like to add a line about a seemingly frivolous aspect of PDI which may ruin your happiness of new ownership within minutes if ignored.

Always ensure that all your details reflect correctly in RTA papers. Showrooms tend to make spelling mistakes and or drop/miss certain detail. This brings more troubles your way when you go from temporary to permanent registration when details mismatch with the supporting documents. Showrooms tend to wash their hands clean at such times saying the matter is between RTA and the the consumer.

Hence keep this as the last step of your bike PDI. Dont sign anywhere unless you ensure all details are one hundred percent accurate.

One more thing from my personal experience...

I have actually booked my RC 200 bike in the month of FEB 2016 exactly after KTM has released its 2016 model pictures which features DRL lights, new tyres, etc...

So we paid the cash in full.. KTM showroom sales manager has said me that they will be delivering the bike after registration and he didn't show us the bike as there is no stock available at the time of booking but he has shown us the model bike which is a DRL fitted one.

So I agreed and went after 3 days to get the delivery of the bike....

Literally I was shocked to get a 2015 model bike with not even a pinch of updates from 2016 model.

When I asked the showroom he argued with us that this is 2016 model. So I dropped a mail to KTM India and sent all the pics containing the Chassis and Engine Number and rest of the new bike updates.

They immediately responded and gave us a new model bike.

So before taking delivery of your bike check for the features with the Company's website also check for the year it was manufactured..

This is a very good red herring. Yes, there have been cases where people rename your name or miss a street name or nitty-gritty only later to find them a haunting experience at the RTO. This is a very good suggestion. Just making sure the address details are perfect at the dealer level saves time and unnecessary red tape.

    Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
    The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

At least with the scenario in India, there isn't big a problem with cops with it comes to name errors. Most of the times the cops just refrain you for insurance, PUC and expired license. Though it's a good practice to check the name both in RC and Insurance for legality purposes.

True it is not a problem with cops but can lead to issues in insurance claim and warranty.
Though in my case everything is checked fine and invoice was changed instantly by the dealer.

Here in HYD the tax you pay for each new vehicle you own, goes up each time you buy and register a new vehicle to your name.

So it seems many people try to make minor spelling mistakes so as to have 'a unique name' each time and try and avoid the tax increment. Hence the cops here keep a strict eye on the names' spelling mismatches thinking that it may be a deliberate move.

It's good to be vigilant at both the owner and the the person registering the vehicle, in case of middlemen appointed by the showrooms who take care of the registration. Many a times the names themselves are erroneously entered be it Aadhaar and or ration cards et cetera. And when these are used for proofing purposes that's when the mess up happens. So, it's imperative from our side, we furnish the right name which we have in our IDs like licenese, PAN card, Bank pass book et cetera when and where they are required.

    Cheers!
