Thumbs up France's New Motorcyclist Laws, to be imposed by September.

    France's New Motorcyclist Laws.

Compulsory hi-vis jackets for motorcyclists are among a raft of restrictive new traffic laws to be introduced in France. Motorcyclists also face compulsory retraining if they haven’t ridden for five years and larger number plates on their bikes.

Other measures include jail sentences for speeding by more than 31mph (50kph), removal of speed camera signs and a ban on camera warning devices which could include GPS and smart phone applications. Penalties for drink driving and mobile phone use are also to be toughened.

British motorcyclists entering France will be expected to comply with the new rules, which are due to be imposed by September.

Nick Brown, General Secretary of the Motorcycle Action Group (MAG), said: "As well as affecting UK riders visiting France, the French proponents of the changes will doubtless be encouraging other governments to follow their lead. MAG is putting together plans to support FFMC and oppose the adoption of these measures elsewhere in Europe."

I think it means a jail sentence if one exceeds the speed limit of a road by 31mph or more.

No, it probably means that if you break speed limit by more than 50 kmph. If the speed limit is 100 kmph, and you go 155 kmph, then you will go to Jail. On 101-140 or so, you might pay penalty or something.

It's this trend to flaunt overspeeding bills to friends and to boast, that led to creation of such laws. Now, you won't get a bill to show as medal, but rather a jail term!

Oh, that's fine then. It seems I misread it. We too need something similar here, provided the speed limits are made a bit more realistic.

The wording of the text is a lil confusing, but anyway the speed limit within cities, towns & villages in most of Europe is 50kmph. Near school limits it also drops to 30kmph.

revising motorcycling laws for safety concern is a good thing.......

i was just wondering if riders can wear black jackets now.........or any other sober color, or they have to compulsarily wear colours similar to flouroscent or yellow.

and what about bit number plates, it should be big enough to comfortable read it, it si not a safety device?? or may be to help police note down the numbers easily and from far away also.
