KTM 125 Duke: KTM’s ‘dream teen’ street motorcycle breaking sales records
The KTM 125 Duke, the entry level street bike designed by KTM to attract today’s young rider may have only been on the market for three months but the junior model of the company’s successful Super Duke has already captured the imagination of the media, young enthusiasts and succeeded in securing a top place in the sales figures for the segment. The KTM 125 Duke was one of the most talked about and highly anticipated bikes to be introduced onto the market in 2011. It was specifically designed and developed by KTM, the market leader in sports oriented motorcycles, to capture the hearts and minds of entry level riders and sales figures indicate that in three short months since its release, it is fast becoming the ‘the’ cult machine for today’s teenage rider. ‘First Fast Love breaking sales records’ Billed as “Your First Fast Love” the company’s ‘Baby’ Duke has already been breaking sales records and by the end of June more than 6,000 had been registered in Europe. Within just three months it has assumed a leading position in the market segment for 125 motorcycles. The KTM 125 Duke was first launched in Europe where sales have been booming ever since it hit the showroom floors at the beginning of April, particularly in France where in the first eight weeks of its release, more than 1,000 were officially registered for the road. Reinhold Zens, Managing Director of KTM France said he was very satisfied with the how the launch of the KTM 125 Duke has been received on the market in his country. “We perceive excellent feedback from the media, our dealers and already from our 125 Duke clients. This is a product that is very important for KTM in terms of both our business and our brand image,” he commented. Growing a news generation of motorcycle enthusiasts KTM, no stranger to success with internationally acclaimed offroad racing machines set out to create a ‘heart’s desire’ bike for young riders that represented state-of-the-art technology, packaged in outstanding design in a machine that would offer adult riding characteristics at a competitive price. Taking the longer-term perspective the Austrian motorcycle specialist also wanted to tempt and grow a new generation of dedicated motorcycle riders who favor the company’s specialist machines in their flagship Orange color and style. Proven cult brand status KTM, a brand synonymous with offroad racing where it has amassed a massive 192 world records and 10 consecutive wins in the Dakar Rally, launched its first full-blooded tarmac sports bike in 2004, the KTM Super Duke. Since then the company has been refining its research and development expertise in road bikes with the intention of presenting a model palette as attractive and comprehensive as that which it offers to the offroad segment. From offroad to road – defining and delivering pure riding pleasure KTM is a brand inextricably linked to a highly enjoyable riding experience. Models are a dynamic mix of cutting-edge, distinct design and the highest technical standards, the expertise for which has been largely gleaned through experience directly garnered in world-class racing. The bikes are precision crafted and include the best quality components. They deliver smooth unfolding of power thanks to strong, lightweight sports engines that are second to none. Bold looks and unique styling mark each model with the KTM “Ready to Race’ DNA. The 125 Duke has been designed using these same principles and is unmistakably a close relative to the company’s precision-engineered, superior sports bikes for the road, such as the Super Duke and the RC8 R Superbike. The KTM 125 Duke has not only made a huge impression on young riders and market statistics, it has also captured the attention and imagination of the specialist motorcycle media. What the media says: ·Motorcyclenews.com: “It doesn’t seem like a regular, budget 125 machine; It feels like a premium motorcycle…...this is the new king of the 125s” ·Londonbikers.com: “We think this has to be one of the most credible road-going performance 125cc bikes we've ever seen.” ·Mark Forsyth on viserdown.com – self-confessed middle-aged motorcycle journalist after a first ride on the 125 Duke: “All of us were seventeen again. It was pretty much a whole day of on-road naughtiness without actually breaking any speed limits.” About KTM KTM, trading as KTM Power Sports AG is a leading international manufacturer of motorsports vehicles. KTM has already achieved 192 world championship titles and has won the Dakar Rally ten times. The operational core business develops and produces race-ready offroad and street motorcycles. |
