Honda Dream Yuga coming on 15 May.

Alright guys, the Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has announced that they will officially launch their first proper mass-market motorcycle for the Indian market on May 15th. Called the Dream Yuga, this motorcycle is the latest in a long line of Honda ‘Dream’-badged motorcycles that have provided affordable personal transportation to the masses since the launch of the Dream D in 1949 by Soichiro Honda.
The Dream Yuga is powered by an 110cc single-cylinder Honda motor that makes 9 BHP @ 7500 RPM. Honda says the Dream Yuga can deliver upto 72 kpl.

The styling is not unlike the Shine and the Dream Yuga comes equipped with a longer seat, full gear lever and full chain case, to appeal to the prospective commuter clientele. Additionally, it comes with tubeless tyres and the Honda ‘Tuff-Up’ tube – a first in this price segment – along with viscous air filter and a maintenance-free battery. Honda also promises good ride quality along with a frame that will stand up to difficult terrain.
Electric starter will be on offer along with five colour options. The price will be declared on 15th May 2012.

I'm not sure if people would prefer this over Twister, except maybe for lesser pricing and commuter type styling. It is claimed to give 72 kmpl which isn't much above 70 kmpl claimed for Twister. It seems to be the same engine and looks are so-so, or one can say, "acceptable" for the commuter. More Color combos is a good news, and electric starter is now almost a must-give.

What confused me in the above text is: "Additionally, it comes with tubeless tyres and the Honda ‘Tuff-Up’ tube". Now, what is that supposed to mean? Tubless or not? Or one tyre of each type?

For the "reliability-commuter" group, this is a good motorcycle. But somehow, I'm not convinced that this would be Honda's dream era, as the bike's name suggests. People have enough choices and this seems ok'ish on the first look. Rest can be said only after it touches the market.

This is Hondas attempt to take on the Splendour. Remember people remember Splendour for both HERO and Honda. (Though more for Hero)
No wonder the styling cues are a subtle change from the splendour of yester years.

I would not be surprised if Honda plays the splendour like campaigns especially in rural india. Can they match Heros network? Atleast not now!

I, for once feel like buying/riding such economical bikes. 72 kmpl :O.

such bikes make so much sense for those who commute for living. It's definitely no brainer why such bikes are so much in demand in rural and urban India. A notion, we "fast and quick" biker wont completely understand and accept.

and yes, Honda is getting agressive day by day, month by month.

This bike will go big and is bang on in terms of commuter taste and comes from Honda family. Twister does very less numbers, I won't be surprised if in a year this overtakes Shine to become the largest selling bike from Honda's stable.

The Twister's 110 cc engine is a gem.. now with the "Yuga" it gets a decent and universally palatable styling (for the commuter).

This bike has all the makings of making a serious dent in the commuter space including the Splendor.. provided of course HMSI increases it's rural reach (and probably not charging the customer of the "Yuga" for the number plates).

I know "Yuga" is an odd name but then desi buyers also buy the "Laura" right..??

If it were 2 variants, they should've used "OR" instead of "AND". Like, "The Dream Yuga comes with Tubless tyres OR tuff up tube." Using "and" means that this bike has both.

Its quite possible that it may have 2 variants... Only time will tell.

That should be attributed to the poor AXEFORD ENGLEEES The person who photographs the bike must be different from the one who reports the message to the one who's writing the article involving 2-3 people in chain.

Have we not seen this earlier here? Being auto enthusiasts, two type of tire, tubeless & tuff-puff-guff on same vehicle...hmmm

    Let's wait & watch

What's with the strange name. People will now be embarrassed to tell their bike's name.

Q: what bike do you have?
A: ehh... I am the proud owner of the "Dream Yuga" :P

translated to hindi - "sapnon ka yug"
