    Honda already makes several amazing cruisers, even in the small / midsize range from 300cc up to the liter; yet steadfastly refuses to sell them here.     I would give my left nut for a Honda Rebel. It seems, in every possible way, to be the perfect bike for all my needs. But this is Honda we're talking about, so there's no point in waiting for something that will never come.


    Of course, I hope I'm wrong. But I'm probably not.

    Would you pay Harley Street750 money for a Rebel 500 though? On paper there's not much of a difference. 7 less ponies but weighs like 40kg less I think.

    "compete with RE" means single cylinder engine with as much detuning as possible.

    So, IMO, Honda will find some ~500 cc single cylinder engine in their portfolio (for example, the XBR500), detune the sh** out of it (the XBR500 made ~44 hp, lets say after detuning it will make 27) and plonk that into an ancient steel frame with rear drum brakes and retro styling, price that at 2.xx lakh (can't price it less, its a Honda) and hope that it will sell.

    Can't wait for it to be launched

    If they make the rebel 500 in India, and price it around ₹3.5L on road, it could find takers. The rebel 300 must be around ₹2 lakh to poach the RE customer.

    The Rebel 500 costs 4.15 lakhs ex showroom in Thailand where it is manufactured. It costs 7.2 lakhs in Indonesia where its imported as CBU. Even if they manufacture it in India, you wouldn't see the Rebel sell for under that Thai price if the Indian CBR250R price and Thai CBR250R price being identical in 2011 is of any reference.

    TBH I don't see local production happening at all. The sales numbers wouldn't justify the investment for a manufacturing line in India when they export worldwide from Thailand. At best what I can see them doing is import the engine as CBU and electrical bits from Thailand much like they do with 650F and 150R but maybe manufacture the frame and other parts locally to keep the price down. If the engine comes in as CBU, it would add a premium to that Thai price which means you'd be shelling out more than the Thai price to offset the tax. Its exactly what they did with the 150R(which makes it tad expensive over the R15) and the CBR650F(which puts it above the other 650s).

    RE itself is a brand or rather should i say the motorcycle 'bullet' is the brand. It has it's own fan base and following, no doubt about it and imo it doesn't have and will never have anything to compare it with (unless you want to compare apples vs oranges).
    If you look at the market today, the number of customers spending 1~2 lakh on a bike is increasing tremendously compared to say the 2.5+ lakh category. Out here the budget plays the pivotal role in a customer deciding which bike to buy.
    So can Honda get a sub 2.5 lakh (assuming inflation/spending power increase in the next couple of years) sub-400cc twin (or single) in a retro-classic style ?(like the picture posted earlier)
    The real glory is being knocked to your knees and then coming back. That's real glory. That's the essence of it.

    That Rebel 250 is only for the Japanese market. Maybe Indonesia and Turkey in the future because those markets cannot recieve the Rebel 300.
