Ofcourse it would do a bit of damage to the RTRs and even the ZMAs... heck even the R15s but they would be limited to the ones who bough these bikes for its poser value.... ! (which i know are quite a few)
Yep, differentiated looks do help to sell in this land.. be it Tank Flaps, Black Painted Engine/Alloys, Clip Ons, Half Fairing or Even Simple Sticker/Paint jobs.

Whereas RTR180 is concerned, it will have atleast its performance to take of things ...(considering the performance of RTR160FI, RTR180 will be expected to give tough competition to the bikes in one segment above it)

Ok, so which option do you think has better chance of bringing in more sales..??
(with the least effort/investment required)

1) 153 cc, same* Power, same* mileage along with the Half Fairing
2) 180 cc, more* Power, Less* Mileage along with the Half Fairing

[* More/Same/Less as compared with the current FZ16]

Is there a chance that by not plonking in a BIGGER engine, the FZ16 with the Half Fairing will sell less..??
Just for an analogy, we are see quite a lot of CBF Stunner's (with the same 125 cc Shine engine) on the road. Don't we..??

Let me make it clear that I am not advocating Cosmetic Upgrades without Performance improvements.. I am just trying to point out how bikes are usually bought in India.

good business tactics by Yamaha. But then, I wonder if they are going the "beating the FZ to death" way with all these iterations. And then, it was already overpriced... dunno how high this semi faired version is going to the price up! The FZ needs a strong backup of at least either performance or mileage compared to other bikes in its class. Without that it might not sell well for really long with those high price tags!

They are loosing track of the concept here. The FZ 16 was a butch looking naked bike. They are making it look like an R15. Both the bikes loose the USP in looks.

Which 180cc bike are you comparing it to anyway? P180?

PS: The Stunner's engine produces a bhp more power than Shine (and more than all other bikes in this segment, if I'm correct), and it looks way better than Shine. I think that justifies the extra 3K

EDIT:

No not the P180 but the hypothetical/speculated FZ16 with 180-183 cc capacity.
(Opps..!! it will be FZ18 or FZ19 in that case right..??)

U sure..??

The official HMSI site actually indicates a difference of around 5K between the prices of the Top Variants of the Shine and the CBF Stunner.

Whether it's justifed or not is Subjective.
