Hi Bluevolt, loved reading ur post. Just wanted to ask you whether you had any problems with ur front number sticker during ur trip across India. I have been provided two HSRPs from RTO but I want to put a sticker on the front bumper. Is it illegal?

No, I had no issues with the front sticker at all. Actually all the way along I was asking directions from traffic cops and no one objected to the sticker!

Last weekend I was going to Pondicherry from Mysore through an unusual route. By 10pm I reached Trichy. Stopped by the 1st checkpost. The police saw my documents and told that my insurance has expired when I had 10 more days to expire. After seeing the DL of one state and vehicle of another, he asked his subordinates "what shall be done with this vehicle". The group circled my bike for 2 rounds and then one came up "Sir, number plate". "Yes, there shall be a fine of 500". I asked why and he told its not the "company no. plate", reffering to the font. Surprisingly, he told the fonts should be 70 centimeters tall and I had used a digital font in both front and rear of prescribed height. I told I have rode TN many times and also covered the whole of South India by my bike, but he was reluctant. Then he himself came up- "If no fine, pay 100".
An unfamiliar location at an odd time; 100 gone down in drain.
This is the first time anyone 'fined' me for the number plate. Among the whole of South India, I always find TN as an odd place to visit with an other state vehicle. Police always targets those vehicle and don't even care to stop TN plates. They act as if they have any revenge to take from other states.

I had the digital "Calculator LCD" font on my previous bike on the number plate, not stickered type, never had any problems.
@ Vickks : Actually those cops were sitting there for earning a quick buck and they wouldn't have noted down anything even if you sped away from there (like my friend on a 220 did a few days back). But to be on the safe side, good that you gave them a Rs.100 to avoid unnecessary "jhamela".

There was no chance of speeding away. A 10 feet road with zig zag barricades and 5 policemen! Police were there every 15-20kms. Mine is same calculator lcd type. Had outrun TN cops once before (was carrying bag full of alcohol from pondi) but it resulted in a month of swollen arm! Police wala danda ghuma diya, lag gya!

It wasn't drunken driving. Actually pondicherry being a UT, alcohol is pretty cheap. People coming out of Pondi usually carries a bottle or two with them and the TN police sits right at the border! If the bottle is sealed, they fine you coz the state's loosing some precious revenue from alcohol. Same as in the highways out of Goa.
