I had to cut short my utopian vacation as soon as my money ran out! I was not bored in 45 days, but I felt that I was just on edge of boredom. Just.
What if you had bought a small hotel and were running it?
What if you were writing a book?
What if you were running a web portal/e-comm site sitting from home?
What if you were running exclusive trekking/biking tours in the region?

The question is whether the above would have made a difference to the boredom. I keep thinking about it. Quality of life is important enough but boredom will come for sure if there is nothing to do. I would think that if one can find something productive/constructive to do daily, then one would stand a better chance.

Also, I keep wondering how important are the social structures we have around us now. We are so used to relatives, friends and acquaintances that maybe we do not give them sufficient importance but will badly miss them in an isolated place.

Actually that was my point through the analogy. The scenic village in Italy will soon become boring if you have nothing to do - but if I knew I could set up something there for sure, I would not hesitate to move there at give it a try!

Dont miss Alberobello, it is just 50 KM away from Matera, you will be amazed to see the beauty of Alberobello. Also visit Craco, on the way from Matera to Alberobello, also known as Ghost Town.
