donot apply disc's during fast speeds, apply rear brakes first ,then slightly apply front/disc brakes

I'd recommend exactly the opposite. Discs are for quick stopping. whenever you are in a straight line use the disc and use the rear brake only to support it. (forget about brakes when the handle is not straight. use engine braking instead / brake into the curve)

3 How to apply sudden brakes without loosing balance?
apply both the brakes at the same time,40% front disc 60% rear brake
same as above. The rear brake on the 180 is not very good. mild braking often produces little result and on hard braking the rear skids.(my experience but not on ug4 maybe the 120 section tyres are better?)

Emergency braking cannot be premeditated. it comes with your general riding style or experience.
disc's abruptly stops the bike,so there is a risk of loosing control on high speeds, not recomended at all ,use rear brakes to stabilize the bike first and then apply front disc's

and yes you are right, emergency braking cannot be premeditated, he asked such a question, thats why i gave the ans, atleast i use that method

Smile Finally got mileage i wanted from my bike

Today i went to Greater Noida in the morning on my Pulsar 180. Finally today i drove as you guys suggested, no quick speeding, no sudden breaking, proper acceleration, and speed between 40 kmph to 60 kmph. Look what i got in result, a healthy 48 kmpl mileage.

Thanks to all of you.

Apart from all the several tech-related things mentioned in the previous posts i.e keeping your bike in shape etc. The one simple thing you can do to get good mileage out of any bike is to ride slow, ride easy, and ride smooth. I'm sure you know how to do it as well....

I m getting abt 60kmpl from my 150 pulsar.

Sometimes I drive 80 and while touring I touch 100 too.

But the way in which I increase speed is mainly at the fifth cog. There will be no sudden acceleration / harsh braking.

I never accelerate constantly at the same speed even in the deserted road.
I left the accelerator to idle position for a few secs and accelerate back. maintaining 80kmph during touring is ok

I accelerate at moderate speed at the 1-4 gears. Usually I maintin 3-5K rpms.

From what I have learnt from conversations we had with racing Pros like Pritam Dev at TVS racing, we should always use front breaks in case of breaking in greater speeds and use rear one to support the balance along with it.. Also apply disc break progressively.. not abruptly unless it is an emergency...

Bike India Nov 09 issue has a special feature on Breaking.. Check it out..
Also use good set of tyres depending on the terrain you ride most often..

with regards to braking, i use the front heavily with the rear to stabilize, unless i am in a bend or turn, then the front is modulated to keep the line in check.

The rear should be used with the front, but front 60-70 even 80%, with rest going to the rear.

Practise emergency braking on open roads if you dont wanna suffer a lock up or a slide. Once you keep doing it a number of times, your body and mind might just remember the right way to brake in an emergency.

One main point that i would like to mention is, If you can ride your bike in traffic using minimum brakes, you are riding very efficiently.

The more brakes you use, the more energy is wasted ( the energy consumed by burning the fuel to get to the speed). So if you are cruising with traffic, and use brakes to a minimum, and start using gaps and lanes to your advantage ( keeping an eye out on your rear view mirrors ), and minimize the use of brakes, you will automatically be wasting minimum fuel simply accelerating all the time. You will carry more speed in. Coast to a halt, no need in reaching the red light and jamming the brakes.

Keep your distance, you will brake less right behind vehicles, and hence no fuel wasted again for accelerating and coming upto speed.

Also it will help increase the life of your brakes.

I have done it for three years everyday Gurgaon - Delhi via MG road, and have consistently gotten mileage of 42-45 kmpl from my Tbird, even 52 +

And it was not that i was crawling at 45-50, i was with traffic, but keeping below 80, between 65-75.

Default Mileage drop in Pulsar 180

Hello everyone....
I own a Pulsar 180 UG4. Done just 3500 kms. I have some serious issue regarding the mileage. I always check the mileage through Reserve to reserve calculation . As per the calculation, I am getting the mileage of just 22-23 Kmpl which I think is a very low mileage for a P180. I took the bike to the Bajaj service centre and the service manager checked the mileage by connecting the external fuel tank ( the smaller one which they actually use for the test ride bikes..) . He filled exactly 100ml of fuel and checked the mileage . The bike delivered 4.3 kms, which means for one litre, is 43 kms.
But when I check through reserve to reserve calculation, reserve falls off when the gauge shows just 22-24 kms. Does my bike really has a drop in mileage..?? If so What is the exact problem for the drop in mileage..?? ...Is it the problem with the Engine or will there be any leakage in the fuel line....??? Plz help me...
